Namedrive blocked by China?

I park my domains at namedrive and found traffic from China is extremely low compared to the overall traffic.
Are namedrive sites blocked by China?

As with most parking services, parked pages from namedrive can not be reached from within China

What is a good place to park chinese domains then? I tried to register to dopa but they never get back to me. Little bit annoying.

Re: Namedrive blocked by China?

You can test whether a site is accessible from within China by using WebSitePulse test tool. http://www.websitepulse.com/help/tes...hina-test.html

If it is an IDN then you will need to use the punycode form for this test tool.

Nope. So worthless I moved everything back to ND.

Same with the other mob from China - they're so bad I can't even remember the name.

I visited your page here:

http://www-staff.lboro.ac.uk/~coas/i...ting/IDNs.html

very nice indeed, lots of languages represented, and very grateful to see my games site mentioned

Just one thing, our rating of Ⓑ i.e. "This IDN resolves successfully and then is redirected to another website or page. (http 302)"

That is correct iff the browser is IE6 (or below) or Firefox. For modern browsers that display IDNs properly, there is no redirect.

Finally, Loughborugh is my old Uni It was my one and only opportunity to use Apple Macs on a regular basis. I really should get one again ....

Re: Namedrive blocked by China?

Any IDN website outside China is effectively blocked by the hack that make IDNs work in China. This is not a political thing, it is just the bi-product of a very crude bit of software. When ICANN do their thing this hack will be dropped and everything will be OK. Until then IDNs will only work in China if they are hosted in China.

Re: Namedrive blocked by China?

or hosted in Hong Kong

Also make sure that the www.idn.cn or www.idn.com etc. (i.e. www resolves correctly / works), as many browsers route the non www version to search engine results (which your IDN should be near top of if the .com or .cn is used and you are spidered).
i.e. typeins in URL bar will only work to resolve directly, if www is used.

Cheers - Asiaplay

Not all idn websites outside of China are blocked. I just tested 拉夫堡大学.com (xn--7kssxka00ubso.com) using websitepulse. It works fine. 拉夫堡大学.com is hosted in England.

Not sure where you got this information from. All IDNs are reachable from China. Doesn't make a difference where they are hosted..

Not sure about this. This hack is at ISP level. Would this test be routed through an ISP? If not then it probably isn't representative of the experience of our would be users.

Re: Namedrive blocked by China?

Correct.

This is not a "firewall" issue where certain sites are blocked.

This is a DNS resolution issue, where ISP run DNS servers in China give non-authoritative answers to DNS queries.

You may think everything is peachy, because your example.com isn't being blocked by the Chinese firewall, but if Chinese ISP's are handing out the IP # to example.com.cn when queried for the IP # for example.com, then you're screwed.
