Cool EU: not allowed to sell

This from binaryman at namepros:

I wrote a mail to Eurid yesterday to inquire when their system would be ready to handle transfers of .eu names that had been sold and needed to be transferred to the new owner.
This is the reply I got.

Geachte heer,

Het is helemaal niet de bedoeling dat .eu domeinnamen verkocht worden
Om welke domeinnaam gaat het trouwens, het is misschien best dat ons juridisch
departement dit even onderzoekt om de te gaan of u niet met illegale praktijken
bezig bent.

Mvg

Translated it means: "It is not allowed to sell .eu names. Which name is this about? Maybe it is best our juridical department investigates if you are busy with illegal practises."

Re: EU: not allowed to sell

Amazing - another reason to stay from .eu

As said in the post, maybe they should start by investigating themselves for illegal practices. LOL.

Re: EU: not allowed to sell

Jay Finnan at SEDO put this spin on it:

"The .eu registry is not set up for transfers. They honestly did not plan for people buying and selling them on an aftermarket and currently don't have transfer system in place."

Re: EU: not allowed to sell

eurid honestly thought that the wolves wouldnt be baying for transfers?
Some people....*sheesh*

With minimal investigation Im sure they would find out that the majority of thoses EU citizens were actually from somewhere slightly west of the EU.
Last time any of them were in the EU was when Columbus set sail with their great great great great great grandfather as cabin boy...

Even if it is viewed as potentially problematic, it will kill the after market and hence the extension. This is precisely what killed dot biz.

Re: EU: not allowed to sell

This is the sort of backwardness that many ccTLD's put up, which is what makes the freely traded .com's so much more valuable.

Re: EU: not allowed to sell

They had so many years to get it right and they forgot about the aftermarket?
Not to mention all the fake trademark applications that effectively killed any chance that an actual EU citizen had of getting anything
.
The majority of the top keywords are in the hands of a few and the fact they didnt leave anything for the small fish will be telling when it comes to selling these names. There was nothing left for the small guys and therefore the aftermarket will be difficult to kickstart if the big guys are demanding prices that are un-realistic.

Here are the result of a few bids I made on SEDO as an experiment for a couple of eu's:

esx dot eu: wants 14,500 euros
62 dot eu wants 200,000 euros!
bomb dot eu wants 4,500 euros

dot what?

Easy way around .eu restriction - name stays with original WHOIS, assignment contract signed showing the REAL owner.

Oh wait a minute, do you mean after people bought a million plus domains, now they realize the names cannot be transferred?

Yes, I am sure the Chinese will be able torelate to the English expression:

"That pissed on their fireworks!"

Spin is right. When I find the source is Sedo, I take it with a grain of salt.

Yes, quite a bit of the yellow guey stuff on the faces, after all Sedo has actively been encouraging this speculation!

Re: EU: not allowed to sell

If the .eu no-sale rule proves true, which I don't entirely believe, it is not a complete disaster: just lease the domains' use. Business will find a way.

Makes no odds, if you cannot transfer ownership, as a speculation vehicle it is good as dead, and with the possible exception of dot RU, no extension that has been not speculated has been highly successful.

Re: EU: not allowed to sell

That's why as unethical and greedy ICANN and Verisign are, .COM will probably be superior to any extention.
