Xizhimen
Xizhimen is a transportation node in Beijing.
The 2nd Ring Road currently links with Xizhimen Outer Street, which has recently been transformed into a city express road, linking the western 2nd Ring Road via Beijing Zoo to the 3rd Ring Road.
Line 2 and Line 13 of the Beijing underground railway network both stop at Xizhimen. However, these stations do not actually connect - a traveller must leave one station and walk around 50 metres across a road to reach the other line. This often leads to large queues during the rush hour. Line 13 has its western terminus at Xizhimen.
The Beijing North Railway Station is in the Xizhimen area.
A bridge is named after the region (Xizhimen Bridge). The bridge has a northern connection bridge built in the late 1970s. It will be removed and be replaced soon. The main Xizhimen Bridge, built also in the 1970s, once stood a rather frightening 5.5 m (it was then, and still is now, for the record, the tallest bridge on the 2nd Ring Road) and had three layers, with the top layer acting as a roundabout. Demolition of the old central bridge took place in 1999 by means of structural removal instead of a major bridge explosion. It was replaced with a series of new bridges which bear no resemblance to the old bridge.
Xizhimen also served previously as a Beijing city gate. However, this was demolished soon after the People's Republic of China was established. The gate formerly was the entrance of drinknig water for the Emperor, coming from the Jade Spring Hills to the west of Beijing.

Dongzhimen
Dongzhimen is a transportation node in Beijing.
The 2nd Ring Road currently links, albeit somewhat indirectly, with two roads which eventually become the Airport Expressway and China National Highway 101. A new flyover, and a new express road are being built that will connect directly with the Airport Expressway and is due within 2004.
The Beijing underground railway network has a node stop at Dongzhimen, where Lines 2 and 13 connect. Line 13 has its eastern terminus at Dongzhimen.
West of Dongzhimen is Guijie, or "Food vessel street" (Dongzhimen Inner Street), extremely well-known to locals as a food street. The character for Gui (簋) refers to a round-mouthed bamboo container for food. The name is frequently mistaken for a similar sounding word, meaning "ghost", so some refer to the street as "Ghost street".
East of Dongzhimen is Dongzhimen Outer Street, which connects with the Embassy area and ultimately to the 3rd Ring Road and the National Agricultural Exhibition Hall.
Dongzhimen was also the site of one of the old city walls of Beijing.
1.5 km from Dongzhimen lies the nearby Sanlitun bar street, well-known to the expat community.

五道口.com XN--DLQ42KFY6D.COM

Wudaokou
Wudaokou (五道口) is a neighborhood in the Haidian District of North West Beijing. It is close to a large number of universities and research institutes, including Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing University, Tsinghua University and the Beijing Geologic Institute, and as such has a large student population.
Wudaokou's popularity as a student area (particularly with international students) is reflected in its large number of bars and nightclubs, which generally offer cheaper prices than more central areas. Wudaokou is also known for its large foreign population, which consists of both overseas students and Korean immigrants – the Korean population in the surrounding area is reported to surpass 40,000. Consequently, the area has many Korean restaurants and shops.
Wudaokou is around 10 km from the center of Beijing, between the fourth and fifth ring roads, and has good public transport links including a station on Line 13 (the CityRail line) of the Beijing Subway. It became a commercial center in Haidian during the 1950s following the establishment of schools. As recently as 2001 the area consisted mainly of hutong neighborhoods and late 1960s apartment blocks, but major development has all but erased many of these old structures, replacing them with luxury apartments and science parks.
