I get 'gossip / idle talk/ a chat' for 잡담. I think the main difference with 'chat' is that Ovt would be about 100x greater for the 'real' term.

Looks like 채팅 (transliteration of 'chatting' it seems) is at least one of the more used forms (677K Ovt).
