Thoughts/Appraisals on some Arabic Domains

Hi,

I recently registered a few Arabic domains, and I'm looking for some thoughts/appraisals on them.

I put up a post yesterday asking about peoples' thoughts on 2 word terms, and whether hyphenating them or leaving them as-is would be better. I figure I'll just post the actual domains I picked up and let people give their 2 cents on them if they wish, Here they are:

فنادقمصر.com (xn--mgbqgp1dive.com) - Egypt Hotels (فنادق مصر)

مصرالعقارات.com (xn--mgbaam5acy8a7esah.com) - Egypt Real Estate (مصر العقارات)

فنادقالقاهرة.com (xn--mgbaai1ao1ikbtrt.com) - Cairo Hotels (فنادق القاهرة)

أبو-ظبي.com (xn----qmcpb3fsera.com) - Abu-Dhabi

مدينةدبي.net (xn--ngbbrb1ih1ae.net) - City of Dubai (مدينة دبي)

Re: Thoughts/Appraisals on some Arabic Domains

hi,
there is a problem when use 2 words in Arabic .
check this thread.

- Unless there is a radical change in how Arabic is written, try to avoid any domain names that have more than one word! It is normal to say JobsUSA.com or MoneyMan.com in English, but double words in Arabic are actually difficult to read. Arabic has to have spaces between words because the words are them selfs connected. If you drop the space (which you will have to do since IDNs does not allow a space char) you will have Arabic combined words that people are not used to and do not know how to read. (There are no upper/lower case in Arabic)

For my 2 cents, many of my better traffic domains are "2 word" the best being "Iraqi Chat" , "Iraqi News", "Arabic Songs", "Belly Dance" among others, some with dash some without.

خبارالعراق.com US$ 2.27 203 65 % 32.02 US$ 0.03 US$ 11.19
غانى-عربية.com US$ 0.54 79 9 % 11.39 US$ 0.06 US$ 6.86
رقص-شرقي.com US$ 0.14 34 10 % 29.41 US$ 0.01 US$ 4.01

From numerous native Arabic appraisals over the past 4 years, some 2 word terms do work and can be read, some can't. Those that get "smooshed" together and letters distored definately don't work (there may be some rare exceptions). I have bought lists from Arabic speakers that include 2 word terms, usually with the dash I might add. Many Arabic terms are two words by nature, which include tech terms, as well as city names.

My comment as a non Arabic speaker on your first few (I can not verify translation) but here is what I see gramatical:

فنادقمصر.com (xn--mgbqgp1dive.com) - Egypt Hotels (فنادق مصر) - NEEDS dash (-) to be read فنادق-مصر.com

مصرالعقارات.com (xn--mgbaam5acy8a7esah.com) - Egypt Real Estate (مصر العقارات) - Seems OK without dash (letters do not "distort" when space removed)

فنادقالقاهرة.com (xn--mgbaai1ao1ikbtrt.com) - Cairo Hotels (فنادق القاهرة) - NEEDS dash (-) to be read فنادق-القاهرة.com

ابو-ظبى seems to get a little better monthly average, not sure if it really makes much of a difference. Abu Dhabi without the dash is already taken.

Re: Thoughts/Appraisals on some Arabic Domains

Thanks guys. I have a couple of 2-word terms that get squished together that still get traffic, and then I've had others that don't. Like an idiot, I let a few drop that were getting traffic (even though it was minimal at the time) - I actually used to own "Iraqi Chat" without the dash one time, as I recall (or was it "Arabic Chat?").

Case in point, I used to own "Dubai Hotels" both with and without the dash, and both got traffic. I sold the dash version and kept the other.

I guess in the case of Arabic domains, we'll continue to learn more as traffic continues to increase and we see what the people typing them in prefer. In my opinion, if they use the non-hyphenated terms then these were far and away worth the reg-fee gamble. Plus, I'll take Abu-Dhabi at reg fee any way at can get it in this point in the game! :D

Thanks again!
