If any native Russian speakers have a second...

If anyone has a spare second and can maybe share your ideas on some Russian .com and .net names I purchased.... The more I learn about this, I'm pretty sure they're all failures, but if anyone might help by explaining why the names are awful/don't work, it might help my learning process a lot so I don't make these mistakes in the future. My general experience with domains/domaining is very high, but I am relatively new to IDN's, and do not speak Russian

золота.com

украинские.com

смотретьпорно.net

фотоню.net

покеронлайн.com

сельскоехозяйство.net

интернетпокер.net

платина.net

медь.net

куплюзолото.com

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: If any native Russian speakers have a second...

I am not a native russian, but I must warn you to take care with Russians. I have wasted $xxxx on domains with the wrong endings myself (I was very naive and stupid though in the past)... Google translate is sometimes wrong, and trends and wordstat show good trends but it can be the incorrect term.

I quickly checked some, some look good, some I am not sure.

Good luck, you are definitely on the right track by doing a good amount of research and reading on the forums.

My experience suggests that Chinese is actually the least confusing language for a newcomer as long as you know the difference between Simplified and Traditional.

I'm pretty sure золото.com is the one you want - and it's been regged for quite some time now.

Re: If any native Russian speakers have a second...

Not able to confirm or help with the domains as my Russian knowledge is non-existant.
One tool that I use when looking at Russian words/domains is the WordStat tool - http://wordstat.yandex.ru/

Sometimes you will find similar looking words all with high numbers. The tricky part is working out which one is the correct word, as the others are usually not stand alone words. If you come across a super keyword that appears to be available to register, it is most likely not the correct version of the word.

Good luck and may the force be with you.

Yeah, I've since kinda 'gotten' that. The odd thing is, I distinctly recall XN--80ANMLBY.net being reg'd by someone in Russia? Maybe it has some ancillary meaning? Either way, far be it from me to do that 'thing' where someone acquires an awful IDN name, realizes it's an awful IDN name then summarily tries to rationalize it as being anything other than unintelligible rubbish... I'm pretty sure at this point золота.com is a dogs butt, but it would be interesting to find out exactly what that dogs-butt really means, if anything

Unfortunately, I rate my best "IDN Related" purchases so far as being IDNHoldings and IDNBuyer (both .coms) from the drop. Long, long way to go with the actual IDN's themselves. If/when Verisign aliases to the right of the dot, the goal is to own at least a few meaningful, generic names.

Re: If any native Russian speakers have a second...

Try using rustran.com. It is pretty good at translating English words to the Russian equivalent and shows nouns, verbs, adjective etc .

Make sure you use "quotation" marks around words to check google serp, and also check google pictures pictures.

It is usually pretty easy to spot words that "stand alone", and those that are coupled with other words.

Definately agree you need help of Russian speaker if you want to get it right. You can hook up with Russian speakers thru this and other forums. Offer to pay them to check you lists before you register, you will still save money in the end. Agree on a per word price, or even an hourly rate. Maybe they can even help you find some available terms.

Good luck.

Re: If any native Russian speakers have a second...

Regarding somebody else registering .net version of the domain name, read this:
http://www.idnforums.com/forums/2394...tml#post144326

That is exactly the same reason in your case.

Of the domains you listed, only the first two are bad, others are OK.

I am native russian speaker, so if u need help before registering domains, we can work it out together.

Is it now the time to begin using .ком on our websites?

for example in чайник.ком

or is it best to keep it чайник.com for the time being?

Re: If any native Russian speakers have a second...

фотоню.net - this one consist of 2 words "photo" and "nu" standing for "nude" - which is ("nu") neologism in Russian - plus it's a .net - so I have doubts about the value of this one, but if it has traffic - then you don't have to worry about it

Re: If any native Russian speakers have a second...

I'm thinking about just deleting золота.com and украинские.com from my account so I don't have to bother looking at them and being annoyed with their presence.

Does anyone here think that either might have any utility whatsoever?

"золота" shows as having 320 gmsve and is represented in trends, although nothing stand-alone in Yandex.

золота.com - keep for possible typin value, but still not good stand alone

украинские.com - keep for possible typin value, but still not good stand alone

смотретьпорно.net - "look at porno"

фотоню.net - ok

покеронлайн.com - ok, but reads better the other way, онлайн покер

сельскоехозяйство.net - correct

интернетпокер.net - good

платина.net - correct

медь.net - correct

куплюзолото.com - "I will buy gold"

Surprisingly enough, search volume disagrees (and of the few IDN's I own, this is the one I'm most proud of )...

I base my reasoning on the following.

While "онлайн покер" would be the Russian language iteration of the most common English language phrase ("Online Poker"), Russian searchers on G prefer "покер онлайн" by an almost 2/1 margin

Insights shows "покер онлайн" / "Poker Online" trending much stronger than "онлайн покер" / "Online Poker" amongst Russian searchers.

Raw content volume does favor онлайн покер, with 545,000 pages v 300,000 containing "покер онлайн" and Yandex ranks them as being coefficient.

Casual Anecdotal Inquiry: In asking Russian language speaking poker players, one flat out said that "покер онлайн" was the more common phrase, while another said that "покер онлайн" is the most common spoken phraseology amongst poker players in Russia, while Russian language speaking expat poker players outside of Russia would be more apt to use the inverse, likely because of "Online Poker" being the more common arrangement in the native language of wherever they were.

In short, for the cost of hand-registry, I'm thrilled with this one, but open to any criticisms of it and perfectly willing to change my mind.
It gets type-ins.

I went ahead and registered купитьзолото.com, which I'm hoping is the "to sell" variant. It seems that they would work well as a package...

That’s a good point and good research. It may also be the case that speakers in Russia are exposed to commercial advertising which uses perculiar and ungrammatical phrases which they immitate, while those outside of Russia speak a more correct way. Regardless, trends are trends.
