Arrow españa.es

XN--ESPAA-RTA.ES

I just picked this one up.
Its got to be worth something.
Spanish for "Spain" in the .es (Spain domain extension)

Any thoughts on its value? I really cant decide if this was a good reg or not so I decided to register it?
When in doubt.

Seems like there is about 5.5 million active serp results for the .es domains. Not a huge amount.

Re: españa.es

Ok well here is some fun
Seems like the register of this domain shows that this domain is active and valid in my account.
Looking at red.es it may be a disallowed name. That bites for sure, but the nature of the way things work.
Still waiting to see if the idn version is disallowed or just the ascii.
Pending a response from the dudes at red.es

Re: españa.es

I'm pretty sure this was one of the names I registered at Instra.com last year. I got a bunch, paid a bunch, then got a huge refund a week or so later. (I think 서울.kr was one of them, too, it was one hell of a list - the only one I got to keep was an ASCII).

I hope for your sake the experience is different.

Smile Re: españa.es

Ok so it is no suprise that red.es has finally decided to make a decision on the release of the domain.

At first the domain was just considered as "held" due to the confusingly simmilar nature of the domain.

After careful consideration by the register it was decided that the domain will only be allowed for register by the government of Spain alone. The Spanish government at this time has still not taken stake in the domain. I am sure it will be soon.

This is actually a victory for us IDNers.

Red.es The official register of Spain now considers the idn domain the same as its ascii counterpart.

This is a major step toward idn use and registration in Spain and the spanish speaking world.

Thanks to Patrick at 101domains for help in communication with red.es. It would have been nice to be the owner of this domain, but the results alone will help our cause for the promotion of idn domains across the world.

This same situation of registering "IDNcountryname".ccTLD has played itself out in several countries already, and in some cases, actually harmed IDN implementation speed and process.
