Exclamation IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

Hi All,
I have a question about IDN with .eu extencion.
Let say we have an 2 identical IDN's "example.com" and "example.eu" in Russian!
My question is if example.com worth $10,000 how much example.eu would be worth and how to evaluate it!
Thanks for your help!

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

I would guess that IDN.com v IDN.eu would have the same difference in value as ASCII.com v ASCII.eu

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

Russian is not a member of the EU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union but Bulgaria is, so Bulgarian IDNs.eu may be worth something.

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

Yes I know Russia is not EU member, but they use cyrillic alphabet same as Bulgaria which is an EU memeber. Do you really think that these IDN in Russian will not worth anything because Russia is not in the European Union?
Thanks

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

Most people in Russia envy/don't like the EU.

Most EU citizens don't see Russia as part of Europe.

Make your own conclusions.

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

I am Bulgarian, and I must say that most Bulgarians like Russian People and Russia as country, and Bulgaria is part of EU, also many Russians buy a real estate in Bulgaria Black See resorts, that is why I was thinking that for example недвижимость.eu (RealEstate.eu - in Russian translation) could worth a lot of money, targeting russion customers looking to buy a Real Estate in Europe, this is just an example. What do you think, if any Russian here please let me know your opinion! Thanks

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

Hi Eurumy,

People in this forum are not big fans of .eu generally - so you are unlikely to get too many positive comments.

However....
Really the value will be based on what the search engines do with .eu
i.e. will that IDN turn up in the results for Russia and other Russian speaking countries (or will it just turn up in results for countries inside the EU ONLY)?

To be honest, I am yet to see a .eu website (even ascii) turn up on the first page of the search engines, even within the UK, France or Germany (maybe this is as few people have developed them - but it could also be the approach the search engines take i.e. they do not get any positive support by the search engines).
I am not 100% sure why this is or if there are examples where a ascii.eu ranks (as IDN.eu will be treated the same way).

With .com, .net and in the future .РФ, we can be sure they will have a chance to rank #1 in Russia if developed.
So in this way they are a better bet, for the for Russian market.

Hope comments help - cheers, Asiaplay

They are, however, HEAVILY used (DEVELOPED SITES) in Finland.

http://www.google.fi/#hl=fi&source=h...&oq=site%3A.eu

The reason is that Finns refuse to purchase domains from anyone other than registrars. If all other desirable extensions are taken, and they are generally taken by speculators, a Finn will register a dot EU rather than paying even 50 EUR for a tier 1 domain in dot COM. Not that a tier 1 domain in dot COM would ever be available that cheaply, but a Finn almost certainly wouldn't agree to pay more than that. They really have something against speculators, and they do vote with their feet.

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

@JacksonM - Interesting... thanks for that comment... I didn't know that before...

Just did a quick and dirty test on a couple of words and it seems .fi and .net are ranking (probably as you say the .com is not developed), but I am not seeing .eu on first page - is that what you have generally seen?
i.e. is .eu ranking (being treated equal to .com, .net and ccTLD .fi) or is it being ignored by the search engines (i.e. google)

Cheers - Asiaplay

I see them in the serps quite often, but can't think of any examples at the moment. The only reason sites using other extensions would outrank sites using dot EU in google.fi is if the other sites are older, more content, more backlinks, etc.

Google's country-level extension preference weights are determined by the local google team. For example, if dot WS or dot CC were not widely used for Finnish language sites (and they are not), then they get a lower extension ranking score compared to the extensions that are widely used for Finnish language sites. Extension weighting varies per country - dot COM carries a whole lot more weight in USA than it does in Germany, but dot COM is fairly weighty in Finland. The whole thing comes down to the decision by the local google team - they know the national preferences and associated history for domain extensions.

Finally, extension weighting is a very small percentage of a site's total ranking, in any country. You can push a German IDN.cc to the top of the serps and keep it there if you know what you're doing.

There are exceptions to every rule, and what you are proposing could very well be a good exception!

Certainly worth gunning for some "Russian real estate investment in Bulgaria" keywords based on the above.

Re: IDN Russian Domain (.com) VS (.eu) VALUE???

One point to consider,
Russia could not get .ру because of Paraguay's .py
Ukraine will likely not get .укр Only because there is no unique (non latin like) character with .ykp
IDN .EU will not be aliased as .ec ascii is the Equadorian tld and in Cyrillic .eu = .ес (Европейский Союз)

Maybe they could get to like Russian.ру.ком, Bulgarian.бг.ком, Ukrainian.уа.ком, Kazakh.кз.ком

If Russian isn't in teh EU, then .eu can hardly apply for an equivalent Russian alias.

Unless Bulgarian for EU is Европейский Союз as well.

Then your argument holds

I never thought about it lol, then my argument is not even necessary, as for Bulgaria, diffrent spelling, problem still exist though: Европейски Съюз
