For the 2nd Week in a Row a Record IDN Sale is Reported and It Leads New DNJ Chart

Quote:
The chart toppers are a pair of previously unreported six figure .de (German ccTLD) sales, including one that ranks as the highest IDN sale ever reported (easily eclipsing Büromöbel.de - a sale thatwe reported just last week at $100,749). The new reigning champion is Gartenmöbel.de ("garden furniture" in German), sold by DomainInvest.lu for a stunning €150,000 ($214,500). They also sold the other domain that tied for first - one that makes up a matching set - the non-IDN Gartenmoebel.de.
the IDN version actually had twice as much traffic!

Just a matter of time and exposure, and prices will be going UP!
This should spur the new members to jump on some auctions, while there are still bargains to be had.

This should be in The Times:

Quote:
"The buyer originally thought that he was buying the better domain in the non IDN but the IDN version actually had twice as much traffic!" Schiwek said. "Still it was really hard to get him to pay the same price for the IDN, because he really thought that no one types in IDNs. Well today he knows better! A really nice online shop is now behind the domains."

Well if it was anything other than German IDNs all the time, I would agree .......

Agree! I'm disappointed not to see other language (especially Japanese) IDN.coms not popping up in the charts. I think the main issue, now, is not having a definitive timeline for implementation of being able to "activate" IDNgTLDs.

Well that and getting the "word" out to the Japanese people as a whole. I seem to recall JPRS going on an advertising campaign a few years back with the slogan, "Let's all use Japanese!" (or something like that) on Subways pushing IDN.JP. Olney posted a few photos.

But I haven't read anything coming from Japan on IDN.IDN. I figured JPRS was really going to promote the heck out of this. It's been very disappointing.

German or whatever, it's good to see and IDN on the top. Remember German is a latin based script, so in time IDNs in non-latin script will eventually be on the charts too. I had an end-user ask me about a thai domain this week. My price was too high for him, but at least he was honest and told me it was too high. I didn't negotiate with him, but getting a request for a sale of a thai domain, was in fact good news, even if the sale didn't take place. I figure by this time next year he will come back and offer full price, and if not, I'll develop it more thoroughly.

BINGO! Some argue that's not really "IDN" domains... only Latin accented domains.

Germany is the largest economy in Europe and the 4th largest in the world, behind China, Japan, and USA. The Chinese gov and Japanese xenophobia being what they are... as well as Germany being a free market and using a latin script... it's easy to see why German IDNs are leading the market.

Yeah I know where Germany is

And many people have argued that countries using latin scripts don't really need IDNs at all

But its not just leading the market, it is dominating utterly, almost monopolizing .....

You don't think there is any xenophobia in Sedo's decision to feature only German IDNs?

I don't know, but anyway Sedo doesn't represent the entire German market. Most large sales will be done entirely without Sedo.

I think you are both missing the point.

User acceptance will condemn the IDN acronym to the status of an archaic term. All Domains will simply be Domains in whatever script. Users generally will never be familiar with the encoding technology, and the system is designed so they should care even less.

Unless they are using Firefox, then they will continue to report bugs.
