Is this [ Вебсайт ] Russian name correct?

"Website" in Russian -

Вебсайт.net (xn--j1ail.net)

I know nothing about Russian;
I'm not sure if this name can stand alone?

Thanks for your opinion.

4,010,000 for "веб-сайт".
1,250,000 for "вебсайт"

In English, the difference is bigger:

323,000,000 for "web site"
1,130,000,000 for "website"

Clearly two words, веб-сайт shows as more used in google, but google combines "веб сайт" and "веб-сайт" results. веб-сайт looks more "formal". Ideally you would own both.

The best one is just сайт, but as a domain name, веб-сайт sounds a bit more specific than сайт, and therefore good.

But, вебсайт = "веб сайт" because domains can't have a space!

And "веб сайт" can be written "веб-сайт".

Germans and Russians do seem to use a hyphen a lot more than in the English language

95% (or more) the domainer don't like the hyphen, no doubt; as the hyphen decrease ASCii domain's value.

105% the IDN investment likes the hyphen; as every punycode must included at least 2 hyphens :p

Re: Is this [ Вебсайт ] Russian name correct?

I did a bit of thinking about this hyphen issue, and here is what I came up with.

In Russian, words don't stand alone in a sentence, as you all know by now. They modify each other, and interact in other ways.

However, throw in some foreign words like 'web site' and they don't fit into the system. Their endings don't change, their grammar is frozen by their foreign transliterated nature.

A native speaker can't even tell if they are one word, or two.

So… the hyphen comes to the rescue, to emphasise the fact that these are two words.

Japanese does the same thing using the mid-dot, which appears almost exclusively in foreign words, and is used as a word divider, just like the hyphen, because otherwise there is no way to tell in Japanese where a foreign word ends and where another one starts.

it's lagging a little behind Веб-сайт, but give it some time http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%92%...B8%D1%86%D0%B0
