Perhaps they may recommend some sort of shiny product!

Re: IE6 beginning of the end?
Government needs to ban it from govt networks, then require anyone with a govt contract to clear their networks of it too. That'll get things hurrying along.

Re: IE6 beginning of the end?
It's nice that IE 6 is going away, but looking ahead, isn't the real problem with Firefox, and the fact that by default it shows punycode for IDN .coms?
If I understand correctly from another thread, this is because Verisign hasn't worked things out with Mozilla. Is this something that the indefatigable Gary and Aaron can tackle? Can they get the two parties to agree?

Dear Google Apps admin,
In order to continue to improve our products and deliver more sophisticated features and performance, we are harnessing some of the latest improvements in web browser technology. This includes faster JavaScript processing and new standards like HTML5. As a result, over the course of 2010, we will be phasing out support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as other older browsers that are not supported by their own manufacturers.
We plan to begin phasing out support of these older browsers on the Google Docs suite and the Google Sites editor on March 1, 2010. After that point, certain functionality within these applications may have higher latency and may not work correctly in these older browsers. Later in 2010, we will start to phase out support for these browsers for Google Mail and Google Calendar.
Google Apps will continue to support Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, Firefox 3.0 and above, Google Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0 and above.
Starting next week, users on these older browsers will see a message in Google Docs and the Google Sites editor explaining this change and asking them to upgrade their browser. We will also alert you again closer to March 1 to remind you of this change.
In 2009, the Google Apps team delivered more than 100 improvements to enhance your product experience. We are aiming to beat that in 2010 and continue to deliver the best and most innovative collaboration products for businesses.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
The Google Apps team

Re: IE6 beginning of the end?
Shock Horror - IE6 is finally dieing out in Thailand ........
http://truehits.net/graph/graph_stat.php#WEB
November 2009 - 39.71%
December 2009 - 36.14%
January 2010 - 31.34%
The big winners were IE7 and IE8, both jumped considerably in January, with IE8 showing an incredible 6% rise. So it seems the recent IE6 horror stories really did impact the Thai psyche....

What you have just witnesses is the small to mid-sized businesses that upgraded because they are less vested in their infrastructure apps.
The large corps still plan to patch IE6.

Re: IE6 beginning of the end?
I've been trying to find words to express my joy. But, I think the Misfits said it best.
Quote:
Die, die, die my darling
Don't utter a single word
Die, die, die my darling
Just shut your pretty mouth
I'll be seeing you again
I'll be seeing you in hell
Don't cry to me oh baby
Your future's in an oblong box, yeah

Re: IE6 beginning of the end?
Gmail and G.Calendar to follow, and will suspend ie6 support later in 2010..
Quote:
Google will suspend Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) support for its Gmail and Calendar services later this year, the company said today.
The move will come at some point after 1 March, when Google will start scaling back IE6 support for Google Docs and Google Sites. Google announced that decision on Friday, two weeks after the company admitted that hackers had breached its network and stolen information.
"We plan to stop supporting older browsers for the rest of the Google Apps suite, including Gmail, later in 2010," a Google spokesman confirmed today.

They also block access to google calendar and docs, because they have those things in-house and they don't want business secrets, etc, leaking out. Unfortunately, it's these very same in-house applications that they force their employees to use that require IE6.

Yes, but how much type-in revenue derives from corporate networks. Our business is generated by the consumer.

Consumers using corporate networks for personal use?
That almost never happens.
