The Virtual Revolution - BBC
I posted the link in another thread but thought this deserved it's own thread.
The BBC is hosting a series online called: The Virtual Revolution - How 20 years of the web has reshaped our lives
Homepage for The Virtual Revolution
All the videos can be accessed here: 3D Documentary Explorer
I know what I'm watching today.
This deals with all things Internet related so I wasn't sure where to post it. From the start of the Internet until today and where the Internet is heading.
If this belongs in another place please feel free to move it.
Enjoy.

Re: The Virtual Revolution - BBC
let me know if you have trouble viewing it from outside UK, and I'll see what I can come up with http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00n4j0r

Re: The Virtual Revolution - BBC
Alpha, if you coule help me to view it, I'd be very grateful. I wrote to the BBC about 18 months ago about their iPlayer, asking when viewers outside of the UK would be able to watch shows, and they told me that it was something they were working on. I'm still waiting, so if you know of a way for me to be able to view it, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks
Alex

Re: The Virtual Revolution - BBC
It is working fine for me. Thank you for sharing this. I am enjoying it.
3/4's of the way through program 1 she states that Google UK gets 38million hits per month. Doesn't this figure seem a little on the small side? By perhaps a magnitude?
I would imagine they get that many hits in a day.

That's the problem with the term "hit", it doesn't mean anything. Are they referring to file accesses, pageviews, unique users, unique IPs ..... when anyone says "hit" in a conversation with me, my "doesn't know WTF they are talking about alarm" goes off.....

yeah pretty good I thought.
Highlights:
- a reminder that it was a Brit who invented the interweb

- Paypal transacting 60bn a year, that's a lot of paypal fees and favorable paypal exchange rates
- China's 50c army.. how can we tap into that to get content written that cheaply
- I Don't remember reading about the Estonia incident

Until recently there was more commerce being done online in the UK than in the US. The UK has a big Mail Order tradition. Online shopping was on a technical upgrade to something that was already happening. Europe is also more suited to intensive distribution systems because of its greater population concentrations. Of course nothing compared with when the Chinese and Japanese get up to speed.

Lol. I thought the 50 cent army was funny. I was thinking. "That many Chinese people are into rap and 50 cent?" But yeah, I'll take content writers anytime at that price.
Estonia was also a surprise. I hadn't heard anything about that. And it started over a statue? WOW.
I did like the sound of what 80 million .coms sound like.
The next one should really be interesting. After all, it's why we are here.

It's not playing in the 3d explorer yet. So can't watch it in the states right now.
That sucks.

no non-English terms, lol. This is AOL Town. Bozos all. Most can't speak English let alone embrace another language. Ever noticed with AOL bozos they never understand what a thread is? They reply to something and the original email is never there. They expect you to "guess" ....
btw, no offense to any AOL users on this wonderful forum. I'm sure you are all upgrading to something real soon.
rant over. back to my "beer sex" search quest... I'll let you know if I come across any life-changing results.
