I was told that 宝くじ is the most popular type of くじ. The native traffic to くじ.jp is certainly higher than most of my other .jps.

Unless I was cheated, くじ=lottery.

I recall the process of acquiring this domain. It was first regged in 2001. I negotiated with the previous owner for possible purchasing, but the domain was accidently expired during the negotiation stage. I paid the money but only to found that it was no longer transferable: the registrar charges a ridicules fee for reactivating it. I finally got it through drop catching.

くじ actually means to draw lots.

In October 1945, immediately after the war, the Japanese government began selling lottery tickets under the name 宝くじ Takara-kuji meaning "fortune" or "treasure" lottery. It is likely that the word for treasure (宝) was added to the word kuji (くじ to draw lots) to differentiate this lottery from Omikuji みくじ a type of fortune telling and amida-kuji あみだくじ a type of game
