Europeans Angry FireFox doesn't support IDNs

Quote:
When will Firefox start to support IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names). IDNs are big hit in Europe (for example visit http://www.eurodns.com/eu-idn-registration/). And we are very unhappy, that IE is supporting them and Firefox not.

Although .EU provides a whitelist of character list as Mozilla wants, but the registry won't officially contact Mozilla, so the Mozilla team ignores bug reports that give them the URL with the official white list.

Verisign doesn't care about bothering with them either.

The question is when Mozilla will realize that they have no mandate to run the DNS?

Here is the main discussion of the bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=279099

Arguments go along these lines:

Regarding German users: yes, German users might well be more likely to see the

This sums up his holier-than-thou attitude:

Quote:
You can provide a second layer of defence if the domain registrars are not doing their job.

Since when did domain registrars become accountable to the Mozilla foundation's beliefs on The Way Things Should Be?

Quote:
User education has its place, but the primary responsibility for protecting Internet users rests with us, the Internet's creators, maintainers and access providers.
From where does the Mozilla Foundation derive this responsibility?

Just transfered all my money to päýpäl.com. Damn, they got me.

But my favorite one is this:

Well, according to the DNS, xn-- is the domain name.

Its the price we pay for the "A" in IDN"A". Its up to applications to deal with translating puyncode into unicode. And Mozilla have decided in their little huddle not to bother unless some "random" anti-phishing measures are implemented.

Fair? No. But you have you to understand. The way IDNs are implemented means that each and every application out there has the choice what to do when confronted with xn-- as a domain name.
