Transfer from domainsite to name.com doesn't work?

The other day, I tried to transfer some IDNs from domainsite to name.com and got the following error messages (at View Registrar Transfer in my 'Control Panel',).

Quote:
# Error while trying to insert the domain into your
account.
# Domain transfer complete.
Strangely, it says "Domain transfer complete" when it's not. I checked whois; names are still at domainsite.

Then I PMed Owen and sent email to support. Haven't got any reply but I noticed the transfer status changed from error to Processing (1) with details as below;

Quote:
# This is a new transfer and/or we are waiting to acquire the administrative email addresses for the domain and/or the domain has a status that is not allowing us to continue.
# Unable to perform successful DomainInfo command on domain.
No authorization data. We still need to acquire the administrative email address. (0)
Not sure if this error occurs whenever someone tries to transfer domains from domainsite to name.com, or if I did something wrong. Perhaps it happened cos I was using private whois at domainsite..

Now I can't even cancel the transfer and get refund...

-------

Question: Has anyone recently tried to move IDNs from domainsite to name.com? Did it work?

Re: Transfer from domainsite to name.com doesn't work?

Just to follow up on this, I got email from name.com support.

The error apparently occurred because I was using private whois at domainsite.

Quote:
We recently changed email forwarding services
and the DomainSite and Name.com privacy forwarding was affected for a
short while.
Once I disabled private whois, the transfer initiated smoothly.

Re: Transfer from domainsite to name.com doesn't work?

Ryu, so the issue was with a setting you had on the losing registrar?

I have recently encountered a similar issue when trying to have one of my domains transferred to Name.com from directNIC. The guy I am transferring to is stuck at that whole, "we are waiting to acquire the administrative email addresses for the domain and/or the domain has a status that is not allowing us to continue" thing.

It looks like directNIC has a similar feature to this "Private Whois" of DomainSite, but I'm positive it is not enabled because with directNIC, it would be coming out of my wallet at $5 a year per domain.

Just wondering if anyone else had any ideas while we both wait for either support tickets to be answered or phonelines to open again on Monday.

Thanks in advance!

That's the problem with private WHOIS - it can prevent transfers. And then when you remove it (even temporarily) the WHOIS DB cachers get the real data straight away, so the private WHOIS was a waste of time because all is revealed.

What if you put empty contact info before removing the privacy protection? If it's only for a brief period (while moving from one registrar to another), would there be a problem?

Re: Transfer from domainsite to name.com doesn't work?

Private whois was never a problem when I was transferring names from domainsite to dynadot. Authorization emails just came to my proper email address behind protected whois.

If you read what name.com support said literally, it was rather a temporary problem. Never know, though.
