Question about Yandex

I have a mini-site parked on Noomle.

when i search for it on yandex, I get the result in puny-code and not in Russian.
In Google, it is fine and shows the domain name in its native script.
is anyone else having similar issue in Yandex, mini-sites or sites.?

Re: Question about Yandex

Yandex, from the start, has opposed Cyrillic domain names. I only see them changing their position when major Russian companies start promoting, and pumping money into them.

True, at least now they index them, where in the past it was near impossible to get through the door.

Correct Yanni. At least it's a start. We'll see in the coming months if they've changed their tune when the advertising dollars start to flow in. My guess is it'll be all Cyrillic come April, um, May, um, September, um, whenever...

Would it be possible admins to do a global search and replace on all posts since 1881? If we could just replace "coming months" with "coming years" + "coming years" with "probably never", this place would hit the roof in the credibility stakes ... and if the operations were done sequentially so that "coming months" posts could cut out the middle-man and arrive straight at "probably never", we sadly might have yet still more credibility.

Does Yandex word tool shows results for broad searches or exact searches?

I don't like the Yandex word search tool, because it quietly converts all of your search terms into the nominative singular, as far as I can tell. For instance, try getting the statistics for доллар, and then for доллары and долларов. They all give the same number.

This isn't very useful if you are trying to figure out, for instance, whether the plural is more popular than the singular.

Re: Question about Yandex

That’s odd, because a year or so ago it was reported that Yandex correctly shows unicode.

Ironically.

Searching for xn-- in Yandex brings up XN--80AAA1CDKM.su as the first result.

Searching for xn-- in google brings up 卐.com as the first result. I wonder whose domain that could be.

Interesting, this used to show up in unicode. I guess they downgraded back to punycode.

be on the safe side and grab them both if available. Leave the "долларов".
but yes I know what you mean, it hasn't been working properly which kind of sux, but that's is what's available. They should probably take a few tips from google on how to separate the results. доллар, доллары, долларов, долларом have the same # of pages in broad results. So i took the words месяц, месяцы, месяцев, месяцам again same thing more or less. words:машина, машины, машиной same thing in broad search results. Now if I add the " " for direct search, the # of direct pages shows a big difference. Google on the other hand works properly for both broad and direct but it show low # of direct monthly searches because its not used as often as yandex in Russia, so what choice do we have? a) calculate the ratio between exact google monthly searches singular vs plural and apply it to yandex b)purchase both and add the google + yandex results and hope for the best.

Its very simple. You take a reliable figure for search market share in Russia and scale up the Google exact search numbers.

Yep agreed. When I found out people had been quoting Yandex "search volumes" for years here when they weren't search volumes at all .... I was quite simply, "gobsmacked".

But hey, if people can quote Google broad searches, and get away with it, why not.

Why not start an IDNF fantasy search number league, it will be a race to get to the top, that's for sure

I have a figure from 2008 which was about 32% but I believe a lot has happened since then in terms of acquisitions. Anyone know?
