LA & NYC

I am impressed by http://ロサンゼルス.jp/ & http://ニューヨークシティ.jp/ Not only Japanese IDNs but also all the pathnames are written in Japanese.

eg http://ニューヨークシティ.jp/カテゴリー/レストラン

These sites belong to one of guys who started IDNF, he just hasn't been around for quite some time. I guess way too busy developing.

Re: LA & NYC

Never mind that, more important is that it seems that google maps is issuing API keys for IDNs now. At least I had a look at the site's source code and it does not appear to be iframing back to another site in order to include the google map, but including it directly from google.

The lack of maps API support has been a major pain in the ass for a long time. I gotta try it on one of my GEO IDNs now...

Nice if Google has this now in place. The New York site seems to have some good ad links as well that fit in with the attraction listings, tourist info, area maps etc. Will have to see how the site begins to rank up and if the idn url gets much weight from big G.

Re: LA & NYC

Noticing ad sponsorship from Expedia.co.jp and the hotel ads appear to be coming from booking.com (Priceline.com) affiliate program.

Seems they can provide international support to affiliates in all major IDN languages at booking.com.

I thought API support for idns was there for sometime now. At least I've been using it on a site since 2007.

Yup, and when someone searches on the site in their script, it brings up the map in that language.

I don't know. For a long time, it would give a pop-up error when you tried to load the IDN site that the map key doesn't match the domain name. Even when creating the key with a punycode name... This was an open bug with google maps api for a long time, many people here have had issues with it. I didn't know that it had been resolved.

Re: LA & NYC

I remember a long time ago Google changed the api and there were some issues which were resolved by getting a new key/code.

Re: LA & NYC

Can someone backward engineer these sites? Where are they getting their content from?

The content is lifted from other sites.

For example:

http://ロサンゼルス.jp/ホテル/ラッフルズ・エルミタージュ・ビバリーヒルズ.html

is taken from

http://www.hotel-archives.org/mailma...091/index.html

Re: LA & NYC

Yea, content looks like it's a manual input, the site runs on wordpress with a few plug-ins [like business directory, google weather, and nextgen gallery] and uses j-query for the slideshow on top. The Hotel search form is from the booking affiliate program.
The theme I believe I've seen in the past but can't remember the name. But, there are a few similar magazine themes that should do the job.
