Buyer Beware!

Hi all members, there have been more sales threads recently, some still with incorrect translation and some pricing too high. In order to be fair to all sales, I will not comment on sales any more. Take Great Care Of Your Money!

I don't comment on sales thread and everyone should research the names well

I correct translations for some who ask for appraisals but in sales threads people will consider it harrasing especially when there are many versions of the name.

Re: Buyer Beware!

Well I for one welcome your comments on my sales threads and think that anyone who has the relevant knowledge of a particular language should step in and make it clear that the name is not what it is claiming to be....
Otherwise people are going to get scammed, by those who deliberately set out to scam and by those who dont mean to scam people....

Ultimately it is all our responsibilities to make sure that people buying our names are what they are supposed to be..

As regards price, thats up to the individual selling the name and if someone wants to pay that price, whether too high or too low is a decision only the buyer can make. As long as they are getting what they pay for.

The problems with incorrect translations, by design or by accident will only increase and we should all be vigilant and try to stop it from happening.

Whether it should be done in a sales thread is open to debate, a PM should suffice and if the seller is unsure then ASK for help from those more knowledgable.

That's true. And if you comment only on some, you will give a wrong signal that the rest are ok, that's even worse.

I think I'm going to stop commenting for exactly the same reason - it's a VERY good point. I don't want to get trapped into "having" to review all the Japanese sales, especially as the market keeps growing and growing. Already, the volume of sales threads is about 10x what it was a couple of months ago, and the trend is up up up...

So from now on I'm going to stay out unless it's blatantly obvious (to me) that the seller is DELIBERATELY trying to commit fraud, and then I'll think about it.

Time for buyers to take a bit more responsibility, and for me to give my typing fingers a bit of a rest!

Re: Buyer Beware!

It is a sad news for the new IDNers.

If the one even did not know how to get the right number on Google...

Exclamation Re: Buyer Beware!

This is going to get nasty.

If Olney doesn't take serious measures asap, in a couple of weeks 90% of the sales in here will be frauds.

We need some kind of quality certification.

VB iTrader (seller rating) is based on actual sells and does not reflect fraud attempts. Any solution?

Also some IDN consulting ($) would be nice?!

Re: Buyer Beware!

Why not use an independent appraiser like Opera?

http://www.idnforums.com/forums/1986...appraisal.html

I agree that it is crazy, but some of these are just so darn obvious! Of course, they are the exact same tactics used to sell RARE FOUR LETTER/CHARACTER dot org domains on Ebay and other auctions. (OK, just Ebay).

As IDN moves onto the radar, what makes anyone think we will be any different than the rest of the internet? Domain appraisal scams, Nigerian (and other country) 419 scams, and the like. Will we become what we abhor with other auction sites? How can we tell if a seller is just uninformed and bold or a scammer??

Education and information are key. Policing action may be necessary in extreme cases, but will it be a volunteer police force? No matter what, it will only get crazier.
