Talking Rick Latona on non English domains

"Many forward thinking domainers [...] There are 21 countries that speak Spanish as their national language. More than 400 million people speak Spanish worldwide and it is the second most natively spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese (source: wikipedia).

With so many countries speaking Spanish, it's hard to imagine maintaining and Internet presence on each of their ccTLD extensions.
"

One would think he was referring to idns? Well, is he? Check it out: http://bit.ly/aPI9Rl

How many companies are doing business in every single Spanish country?

Look at .ca - Businesses are thriving on there and the number of French speakers is far less...

I thought he meant it was impossible for a spanish company to do business on .es , .mx .com.mx and every other spanish speaking extension out there..

In canada .ca alone works well for a small country.

Re: Rick Latona on non English domains

The number of companies that need to maintain a presence in EVERY country that speaks a certain language is very low.

How many companies are that that NEED to have the .com .co.uk .ca .com.au .co.nz and .co.za ?

It's all red herring talk. This "global market with one domain" shit.

If you want to target the UK, you're better of with an english .co.uk domain. For Mexico, most people go .com because .mx is 3 x the price. For Spain, a spanish .es etc etc.

Re: Rick Latona on non English domains

Latona with his cctld sales niche, will commence to drive dot CO sales, or aftersales.

He will make a lot of sales of course.

Of course there will be dot CO successes, but a large # of flameouts similar to the dot mobi and LLLL will occur.

Eventually with the new gltd's , someone will try dot couk ?

Thinking that dot co dot uk typing errors is worth $185,000 ??

Granted dot co dot uk is a global brand, but I think typo error based business logic is not a sufficient tactic let alone a strategy.

Wishing something is so, does not make it so.
Now that Mr Gomes confirms that dot com will have its idn.idn's .

Anyone with an idea for decades, would realize that 80% of content on the net that is not in English is going to leave the English dominated way of search algorithms based on English translation.

Yep, this could be bigger than World Site or Web Site or whatever the hell it was meant to mean...

Even at the extreme another dot Mobi!

Re: Rick Latona on non English domains

Now the other Rick:

The Domain Industry is expanding by leaps and bounds. It is expanding to every corner of the world and every corner of every industry and business.[...] it will likely change the face of domaining in a way few have thought about or imagined.

Is he talking about IDNs?! Yep. you guessed right.

Notice how they can't find a sponsor to this year's T.R.A.F.F.I.C.!!!

They can always find a sponsor. They could reduce the price. They are trying to make a conference without interference/influence of outside parties. The purpose is to NOT have a sponsor.

Is TRAFFIC still going to HK in November?

Bound to be dominated by Chinese IDN if that is the case.

Of course now... Everyone knows that everyone in the world speaks english. There is no need to go to Hong Kong to communicate in characters. Nobody in Hong Kong buys anything on the net ... :P
