Edward Maguire - Credit Agricole Securities (USA) Inc. "Also on the new global TLDs, any updates on initiatives that you maybe working on there?"

Mark McLaughlin- "In order to do that, we have to have that all group from an ICANN perspective as far as them releasing new ccTLD, which a portion of that is the non-english versions of existing TLDs. And that all still appears to be on track for negotiations applications in 2011 with the launch of those things either late 2011 or early 2012".

and....

"So first and foremost, we believe it will, in fact, continue to grow just from being -- benefiting at having a central location, if you will, on a fast-growing Internet infrastructure on a global basis. The second thing is we have growth opportunities right around that infrastructure related to like the new gTLDs I just discussed, both the new gTLDs themselves plus the internationalized version of the TLDs we run today. And if you take into account everything I've been saying about international growing very nicely, we think that there's some growth opportunities around the non-English versions of the TLDs we run".

Re: Verisign 2010 Q2 Q&A

nice to have the CEO on the record, beyond Exec VP Chuck Gomes.

writing two $185,000 checks per 10+ lanaguages for gaining $xxx, xxx, xxx is straightforward.

But what about real IDNs? Aren't IDN.commers going to be crying in their beer when they come out? Isn't this going to be a massive opportunity for every troll that ever posted on Namepros?

Yep, those that think $185,000 is a prohibitively large amount of money just aren't seeing the big picture. I am sure Frank Schilling will be coughing up for dot Web. And good luck with that!

Re: Verisign 2010 Q2 Q&A

What people are not understanding here is that Verisign have been paddling like a bloody swan for the last couple of years.

Has any of you ever tried to steal a swan's nest egg? Verisign will come out with all guns blazing, just as they did when ICANN tried to take dot com from them.

Doesn't really matter. Haven't you heard? The Earth ends in December 2012.
