5 thousand rubles.

Russia decided to reduce the cost of registering domain names in Cyrillic zone. RF. The initial high price - up to $ 330 thousand - was installed to protect against cybersquatters, but the resulting area would be inaccessible to most users. In Ukraine, Cyrillic domain registration. Ukr delayed because of bureaucratic delays.

Coordination Center domain. Ru revised starting price of domain registration in Cyrillic zone. RF. Previous concept included a Dutch auction (with a decrease in cost) with starting price of a domain of 10 million rubles. (Approximately $ 330 thousand) and its subsequent decline in eight weeks. "The Board felt the price of domains proposed in the concept, does not correspond to the potential of ordinary users", - stated in the focal domain. Ru.

The new concept, which should be prepared prior to September 30, can be spelled the final price domain of 5 thousand rubles.
($163), says the director of the coordinating center Andrei Kolesnikov. According to him, the Dutch auction with a high starting price was coined in order to deter cybersquatters. "If no action is taken, some 100 thousand domains with the most interesting names will be registered as a reserve in the first minute of open registration" - explains Mr. Kolesnikov.

Re: 5 thousand rubles.

Let me try to summarize this article from Kommersant: http://www.kommersant.ru/doc.aspx?Do...9048&NodesID=4.

This won't be an exact translation, but here goes:

The Coordinating Center for the ru domain has decided against the idea of using a Dutch auction, starting at 10 million Rubles, to distribute .рф domains once open registration begins. The management, when it put forth that plan, had hoped to deter cyber-squatters. But now it is planning a fixed price of 5 thousand Rubles per domain. But even this is expensive, according to the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS). If the 5,000 Ruble price is adopted, the FAS has promised to take action and fine the Coordinating Center.

The new plan (the 5,000 Ruble plan) should be ready by September 30 of this year.

Registration of trademarked domains began with a scandal in November 2009, when a single company managed to register 18 high-value domains. After this, the rules for registering .рф domains were corrected. [Really?]

In the words of Andrei Kolesnikov, director of the Coordinating Center, the Dutch auction with a high starting price was intended to deter cyber-squatters. "If no measures are taken, then around 100,000 domains with the most interesting names will be registered and hoarded in the first minutes of open registration". In his words, in the new version of the plan for fighting cyber-squatters, the end price for domains might be set at around 5 thousand Rubles. It would be advisable to maintain this price until about 100,000 domains are registered in the .рф zone.

The FAS was concerned that the 10 million ruble price was too high, and they are also concerned about the 5 thousand ruble price, given that domain registration in the .ru zone is so much cheaper.

[End of translation; the rest of the article discusses the FAS and its powers].

I left out a lot, but that is my attempt to translate the key points. So yes, it looks like the Dutch auction has been abandoned, and .рф domains will be up for grabs at about $163 each.

Thanks for the better translation Avtal. Rep added.

I love how they think out-pricing the "average" person from registering a domain name will stop these so called "cybersquatters".

The thing that worried me was "should be finished by Sept. 30". How about "will be"? Are they expecting more bureaucracy/delays and price changes?

Re: 5 thousand rubles.

I grant you that the CJK situation at least was settled 5 years ago.

It is sad that the administrators for cctld's in Russia can't get their story straight , nor impress me that they will have a fair and transparent system.

it just validates that the KOM is a safer play.
the fireworks on Oct 1 should be interesting.

Re: 5 thousand rubles.

Another CCNIC waiting to happen. As and when 'we' decide to move the goal posts you will comply or otherwise fuck off, unless you have the relevant connections.
