"IDN will be mainstream in China"

"IDN will be mainstream in China". This is the message I came across twice during my recent trip in China. I have been frequently travelling in China in last six years, but this is the very first time that I saw people actually talking about IDNs as we do here at IDNF.

On a airplane, I grabbed a Chinese business newspaper and found an article introducing Chinese IDNs. It talks about the advantages if Chinese IDNs in gerat details.

On another occasion, I inccidently attended an Internet Business forum in the city of Hangzhou. There was a presentation about Chinese interent trends which predicted that Chinese IDNs will be mainstream.

Interestingly, when talking about the advantages of the IDNs, both used CHINESE DOTcom as examples.

Hi Kevin,
My mind was occupied by other urgent issues during my time in China so I did not pay much attention to the details of the newspaper. All I can remember is that it is a Hangzhou local newspaper. I have tried to locate the newspaper but without success. However, I got the following press release from Zhejiang Online. It is a good summary of the forum I attended. Hope you can read Chinese. It will also be wonderful if you have time to translate the bold text into English so that non-Chinese speaking members here can get the excitement too.

占比网络经济21%
“有记者问我对互联网广告怎么看?我说按人口的基数而言,中国4.2亿网民是全球最大的一个市场。”
中国传媒大学广告学院院长黄升民在大会发表演讲时表示,互联网广告得益于一个庞大的受众体。他认为,今后互联网广告将朝着互动移动的方向去发展。“2.0时代已经马上要结束了,马上就进入3.0的时代了。3.0已经在市场上占了10%,并且在迅速地成长。”
黄升民说,互联网经济按季度来算的话,今年第二季度已经达到389亿元,就连实体经济的增长都不如它。“网络经济占GDP比重是0.43%,这样算起来的话,互联网网络经济接近1500亿元。”
黄升民认为,引领互联网经济的核心支柱主要有三块:一块是电子商务,占了27%的份额;一块是广告,占了21%的份额;还有网游和移动互联网,各占20%、10%。从发展趋势看,他认为像网游、社区网站等都应是业界关注的焦点。
北京大学新闻与传播学院副院长陈刚还透露,今年上半年,淘宝网的网络广告收入仅次于百度,排在第二。“过去网络广告这一块可能(比重)不是很大,但是现在它的价值越来越明显。”
中文域名将推动互联网广告变革.
大会上,业界最关心的就是未来互联网广告发展方向。陈刚认为,中文域名将大规模推动企业自主网络营销的发展,这将给互联网广告带来翻天覆地的变革。
其实中文域名从2008年就开始推行了,但是陈刚认为,企业的中文域名今年会真正大规模发展。
“我们现在的域名都是英文的,你进北大的主页得输入‘PKU.EDU.CN’,非常麻烦。英文域名一直是很多中国人利用网络的一个很大限制。中文域名大规模的推广,今年就全面开始了。将来你要上杭州市政府的网站,直接点击‘杭州市政府.中国.COM’就进入了,这个变化对中国互联网发展是非常重要的。”
“这对互联网广告也是很大的变化,尤其对企业,就是我们的广告主来说,这个变化更加重要。它意味着当消费者想要了解你的时候,可以用更方便的方式跟你沟通。比如说我想了解西湖博览会,输入‘西湖博览会.中国’就可以,只要是小学文化,会认字,就可以进入。”
陈刚认为,企业自身网站可以跟用户更加直接、更加方便地接触。许多可能需要媒体或者广告公司做的事情,现在在自己的企业网站当中就可以实现了。

此次大会还揭晓了“2009-2010年度中国互联网广告风云榜”——
浙江本地门户网站浙江在线与中国网获得年度“中国新锐最佳门户网站”。
CNTV、优酷、土豆、56网和皮皮网摘取了“年度中国最佳视频网站”桂冠。
天涯网、51.COM、开心网获得年度“中国最佳SNS网络社区”。
凤凰网、互动通、知世安索帕、网美以及农夫山泉获年度“最佳互联网广告营销创意奖”。
“最佳互联网广告第三方测评机构”由艾瑞和CTR获得。
年度中国互联网广告十大人物分别是新浪网杜红、搜狐王昕、网易李甬、腾讯刘胜益、百度王湛、凤凰网李亚、好耶朱海龙、互动通郑斌、浙江盘石田宁、艾瑞阮京文。
