is there general data on the increased use of simplified character use by
people in Hong Kong and Taiwan at all?

is there data on the percentage of HK / TW sites that have simplified and traditional versions of their sites ?

thanks.

Re: 中华 question?

One thing I've noticed lately is that 'content' on the web has increased unbelievably for both simp and trad in the last year or so....it's a real wake up call us 'english' speakers.

you've probably noticed this too, but I was particularly surprised when researching one of my trad chinese domains yesterday.

The real explosion in Chinese Web content happened about 8 years ago.

Arabic content probably exploded about 3 years ago with Hindi exploding last year.

Re: 中华 question?

People in Taiwan don't use the simplified Chinese, except the IDN investors

Re: 中华 question?

Be nice to see some real data about the explosion of web pages in languages other than English.

I know Google publishes data, but as far as I remember, it it just page encoding, i.e. shows the growth of UTF-8, not the different languages / scripts.

If anyone knows any different, be great to see. Would be a very clear way to demonstrate the "takeover" of the international web, and to segment it as well. Would seem to make perfect sense that web pages in languages other than English should have a non-English domain name as well. Just don't tell any ASCII domainers, might confuse 'em.

http://cnnic.cn/html/Dir/2003/12/13/2020.htm
