That's a totally hard question to answer.

My initial advice is don't use Babelfish & think it's law.

Google Translate is OK
But you'd be really good if you can find an online translator in the target language. It should be more accurate than the ones in English...

But I'd go word by word & see if you put them together in a search does it come out to something. There's too many languages & grammatical rules to make a general rule.

I'll tell you what has worked for me in the past.

lets say you are looking for "buy car" in japanese

open up google's advanced search and search on "buy car" but change the "return pages written in language to": Japanese

now click on a few of the returned searches, and paste all the Japanese text into a translator like: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/c...wwwjdic.cgi?9T

the translator will break down each word and translate to english, so you just need to scan your eyes down looking for "buy" and "car" or "purchase" and "automobile"

this method is rather unorthodox, and messy, but if you are really stuck, then I have found it always to work - it just takes a little patience.

Good luck.

Re: how do i search 2word idns? plz help

I've used a variation of AM's method:

- do the initial translation. Let's say "teeth whitening" in French: dents blanchissant

- a search for "dents blanchissant" in Google.fr yields 33 results. Hmm, not quite right.

- search for dents blanchissant without quotes and scan for grammatical connections missing in the original translation

- now we're cooking... first result is: Blanchiment des dents

- search for "Blanchiment des dents" yields 155k results

- register "blanchimentdesdents.com" - DOH - taken. Move on.

There is a free version of systran that just requires an email address...

also babelfish is powered by systran
