Fortunately, it is an offshore quake. The tsunami has already hit Japan and no casuality has been reported so far..

Watching the live reports and cars and houses washed away I am sure that sadly there will be many casualties.

I'm in Tokyo which isn't very near the epicenter. And yet, it was the worst earthquake I've ever experienced first hand. Can't imagine how bad it was for those near the epicenter.

Thanks. But one of my close friends lost his car to Tsunami (or had it damaged). And the factory he works for might be in ruin.

Thanks domainguru.

I just heard a loud announcement from the local govt asking to reduce energy use. Tokyo might run out of power.

Best wishes to everyone there. I was watching it on the news this morning, and it was like watching a disaster movie.

Nature really is a powerful thing isn't it ??

This really sucks. I was actually going over my names before I read about the disaster. I wondered why 災害.com shot through the roof in traffic.

I hope for the best for those living in Japan.

Edit: If anyone knows a disaster relief site I can forward the traffic. Please pm me.

Re: Best wishes to all members who living in Japan

From an old Japanese friend of ours who lives in Chiba near Tokyo.

"It was the biggest I have ever experienced in my 76 years of life. All I did was to grab the cat and ran into the dining room which is the smallest room and in my mind it is the safest place in my place. It was big and very long and many ornaments fell down from the top of the piano and shelves and many of them were broken - including the black ceramic horse of Royal Doulton also fell down from the piano. I heard big sound of the piano striking against the wall. The door of the refrigerator opened and food fell down from it to the floor. The books and pottery were all fell down from the shelves. The drawers of the chests and capinets were open. We sill have minor shaking all the time since the original biggest one. I was really scared."

She lives in a flat complex just 4 stories high, those in condos must have had a really bad time.

RIP all those who lost their lives in this awful disaster.

Thanks Tim.

Edwin is in Tokyo, right? Then, he should be fine. The earthquake has only been a little inconvenience for those of us in Tokyo. Perhaps he couldn't get home yesterday because of traffic disruption. But very few people died or suffered severe injury in Tokyo. Everything in this area will be back to normal very soon.

The situation is dire in the northeast though.
