HomeImprovement.com (Simplified Chinese) Private Buy

price $12k

装修.com doesn't look much, but it's the premier term that defines an $50 Billion sales industry. In China, most houses/apartments are sold with no furnishing, not even plumbing, electric wires or flooring. So vast home improvement industry sprung up to make them livable. Typical middle class spending on furnishing (excluding furnitures/linens) is around $6k-$10k if not more (my estimate).

To think the other day I sold a related popular term for $30. My brain went on vacation, but congratulations to the buyer, and of course a pat on myself and Giant (the seller

Re: HomeImprovement.com (Simplified Chinese) Private Buy

I would translate that into "Renovations.com". This term is worth way more than 12K, and as you said, homes are sold with only concrete furnishing!

Massive market...newly weds borrow heavily to renovate their homes.

Great buy!!

Yes, it's a mix of Renovation/Home Improvement/Interior Decoration/What not. It's huge right now, and it will be huge in 10 years, as many of the poor quality buildings built today will need more renovation.

Thanks

Definitely great buy, i thought it is coincidental that a typical renovation for a 3 bedroom apt is also around 100k RMB or 12k USD.

Re: HomeImprovement.com (Simplified Chinese) Private Buy

Very nice sale ;-)

What made you pick the .com over the .cn? (the .com is very very nice btw)
Did you ever try to contact the .cn owner? Did he want to sell?

As a citizen of China did you believe the .com is stronger? (just seeing your view of .cn vs .com)

Re: HomeImprovement.com (Simplified Chinese) Private Buy

There's some FUD surrounding .cn registration, definitely more restrictions on transfer, individual ownership etc, and less well documented and standardized court process in cases of conflict.

I like .cn domains a lot, but probably would pay less than for equivalent .com. That's just personal choice. Other people could easily make the opposite choice.

Re: HomeImprovement.com (Simplified Chinese) Private Buy

I did reg some IDN.cn 2 years ago using my friends company name. I did not use my own comapny name to reg because I am a foreigner. The rules for .CN regs are a bit lax now, but I still feel a bit more comfortable with .COM regs.

I believe both IDN.COM and IDN.CN will prosper in a near future. I believe the Chinese government will do something to help IDN.cn, but only in a short period of time, because it will not be in China's long term interest in its over-all strategy. In fact, IDN.com will help Chinese business a lot, probably more than IDN.cn can, but you need to have wisdom to really understand the reason.

The value of a Dot Com is always higher, figure out why for yourself :-)

Nice work Kenne. Looks like a good price to me.

Big deal for Chinese IDN and a big deal for IDN in general.

It was only a matter of time before I lost my World Crown for an Asian IDN to Giant. He really does have some fantastic names.

It will be interesting to see if the 6 figure deal Mulligan is rumouring materialises.
