Marc Ostrofsky on IDN's

Interview with Marc Ostrofsky, co-owner of iReit.com and best known for his record sale of the domain name Business.com.

http://www.domainsherpa.com/marc-ost...lick-interview

Michael Cyger quotes from Marc's recently released book "Get Rich Click", referring to domain names.

With the possible exception of international domain names, a buy and hold strategy will not work today in a majority of cases.

Starts at 31:50 into the interview

Re: Marc Ostrofsky on IDN's

he is then asked to elaborate on that statement, but avoids mentioning IDN again.

Wonder why?

When Joe Six Pack gets hold of this book, every Internet play in town accessible to the small investor is going to be played out. Even those available to bigger investors will get played out.

Publishing the book may actually be recognition that the game is virtually over.

But hey! This guy is a serial entrepreneur who pushes boundaries. This guy will leave no stone unturned.

The question is does he have the balls to overcome the IDN stigma?

Well, you will probably have to wait for his next book, by which time our game will have been played out.

Nobody is going to give you a fucking route map!

Re: Marc Ostrofsky on IDN's

I think Marc has major investment in IDNs. In 2000 he kept a sizeable Japanese-Chinese portfolio under the name "Mark Ostrich". I'm not sure about the his IDN situation now though.

Is that in the book?

Still the info has got to be a lot more use than Rick banging on about his latest acquisitions of very long three word niche defining generics.

Can you remember any of the names he held? Be really interesting to know if he has had the patience to stay in the game.

I had some dealings with him when I was still an ASCII kinda dude. He's very focused on the business side, a good tactician, a deal-maker.

Just be interesting to know whether that mindset could possibly meld with the seemingly never-ending delays associated with the IDN scene.

A few days after the CJK domain rush in 2000 I had a couple of emails from a "Mark Ostrich" (not "Marc Ostrofsky"), congratulating me on some of the Kanji that I had caught. I didn't know who this was but I knew he owned a good long list of nice (first grade) Kanji chars including 花.com (flower, blossom).

I'm really living outside the whole DN community and didn't know who Marc Ostrofsky was until a few years later. With his reputation I assumed he is using an alias similar to his own name.

lol, yeah, I know Gregg, very nice fella. Gave me a couple of Japanese single character domains for no reason.

I thought Marc Ostrofsky wasn't the right fit for "sitting on IDNs". Not really his MO.

Re: Marc Ostrofsky on IDN's

There is another 3 paragraph blurb on IDN's in the book on page 119 starting off with:

International Domain Names (IDNs): New Kids on the Block
The internet advertising boom is heating up overseas. There are incredible opportunities in those markets...

Two free chapters including the one on domain names available through his website if you sign up for a newsletter. www.getrichclick.com

Now it sounds like I'm working for him
