PPC is dead?

All too often we have been told that Search will push out direct navigation and there is no doubt this has been a trend.

However, one argument for new TLDs is that they will encourage direct navigation and hence avoid traffic being diverted to search results.

As most sites will stick with dot com, however, this could result in something of revival for PPC.

Discuss.

Re: PPC is dead?

Interesting.

Is the argument that new TLDs will encourage people to explore the web through direct nav or that whatever.com will receive bleed off traffic from whatever.TLD ?

I believe the likeliness of a PPC revival depends in part on Earnings per Click.

Re: PPC is dead?

Parking is just a different form of search engine providing data and possible links to website or queries. The system today more often than not does not deliver what the searcher is looking for, and the "quality" of content/ads is more often than not what the searcher is looking for. That flaw in the system has given parking a bad name and advertisers have been burned too many times paying for low quality traffic that is not searching for their services or products.

The 'future' of parking may well include google, yahoo, bing etc getting much more directly into the business, perhaps even providing technical and marketing efforts to direct the content and quality of ads that will generate THEM more revenues as well. Raising their revenues afterall is their strategy and the real endgame.

If you are searching for "rubber ducks" and you get to a parked page with a genuine quality list of GREAT websites that sell rubber ducks that you can choose from, then that is a successful querie and parking has provided a valuable service. That being said, if you visit a parking page (looking for Rubber Ducks) and instead get a page full of friendfinder ads, electronics ads, shopping links etc. then you have failed the searcher, and lost a valuable marketing opportunity.

Re: PPC is dead?

I think surely if someone will choose to run ads under London.Hotels the registrant of LondonHotels.com will not object and likely greatly benefit from it which leads to the next question, who will really sacrifice they're brand only to likely learn they threw money away (I think factually 99.9% of internet users never heard of .travel .jobs)

As for idn's specifically, with hundreds of thousands of combined monthly searches from users who are now searching with the not yet existing .ком i think is more then a clear indication of where idn traffic will go when the internationalized variants are introduced to the root.

Re: PPC is dead?

What's bizarre to me?

How many years have went sent websites traffic with our IDN domain names? Especially cyrillic traffic. Yet, most cyrillic advertisers I see don't have or use a cyrillic domain name.

Then in the Japanese market. I see several Japanese companies that advertise IDN urls in their ads on my domains. Usually as their header. And many of those domains they advertise are still available to register. WTF is up with that?

Fire your IT and advertising teams. You need to revamp and learn to Internets properly.

As for parking companies? After how many years of providing a service, thousands upon thousands of queries, tons of data. And parking companies still don't know how to market properly. WTF?
