What ICANN desperately needs is a non-American citizen and non-American resident.

EXFUCKINACTLY. RIGHT ON THE DOT.

someone who knows a difference between a letter and a character, someone who understands that communication in non official languages is not a crime and should not be prohibited.

Is it just me looking at this as a piece of good news?

Re: ICANN CEO is out

The last sentence of the article worries me a little:

Quote:
ICANN's new gTLD programme is also set to kick off in January, although some are now privately speculating that it could be delayed by legal action in the US.

Re: ICANN CEO is out

American's speculate on everything and the fact that that get things wrong more often than not is why their economy is in such a mess.

This guys is around until July 2012 and he will not wish to see his legacy ruined, so if anything he is going be more goal oriented rather than less.

ICANN should at least seriously consider this time to appoint a CEO from a non-Anglo-Saxon background to show the rest of the world it really is serious about its purported commitment to diversity.

QUOTE FROM ARTICLE.... :p

If Peter Dengate Thrush’s move to Minds + Machines from ICANN’s chair raised eyebrows, imagine how it could appear if ICANN’s CEO was hired directly from a registry or registrar.

As fun as it would be, I think we can probably rule out Bob Parsons for the time being. END

Re: ICANN CEO is out

ICANN's chains, strike that, handcuffs..strke that...leash...to Dept of Commerce remains.

The US control of ICANN/ IANA and rootzone coordination is never going to change.

Rod will run a new gtld in 2012/2013 ...who cares ?
he can tilt at a windmill if he wants....

Re: ICANN CEO is out

The King is dead. But who is the new King?

How does ICANN choose its new leader, is their a defined process?

Could be very important considering by July 2012 the new gTLD program will be in a very interesting "state" with regards opposition in the States.

ICANN could probably use a top lawyer at its helm for the next couple of years!
