Unhappy 911 all over

Ferry Accident off Tanzania Claims Nearly 200 dead and why all you ever hear on TV today is about something that happened 10 years ago in New York?
Simple because the quotation of one human life in Tanzania is infinitely lower than the price of a human life in New York City. (one of the highest on the planet)

Re: 911 all over

911 was a very significant event in the history of the world and needs to be remembered.

Sorry about 200 dead in Tanzania but zero comparison!

Re: 911 all over

Africa is barely news even when millions die. A bus crash in Europe or North America is always top news. That's *ONLY* my point. Media coverage.

The media covers what people are most interested in watching. *We* should not value differently the value of any human life, but *we* do.

I deeply respect 911 victims and heroes(!) and the mourning of families and relatives. I had no intention to depreciate 911 victims in any way. If I did it in any way, my deep apologies.

Jose has a valid point, though it took him a while to make it. From Wikipedia, Second_Congo_War:

Quote:
The largest war in modern African history, it directly involved eight African nations, as well as about 25 armed groups. By 2008 the war and its aftermath had killed 5.4 million people, mostly from disease and starvation, making the Second Congo War the deadliest conflict worldwide since World War II. Millions more were displaced from their homes or sought asylum in neighboring countries.

Re: 911 all over

I live in Thailand and the local view of life came over very strongly a few years ago when 60+ people died on a ferry returning from a religious trip to an island.

Our then helper/maid said not too worry, plenty more of us and those that have died have gone to a better place!

But you could make comparisons about the loss of life afterwards, both local and American, in wars that although justified by falsification of the intelligence were frankly unrelated.

When you piss off enough people all of the time,
and then when the 'shit goes down' are you really surprised?

Re: 911 all over

No doubt, there are double standards in media coverage.

Nevertheless a pretty historic event. Beginning of the end of the unipolar world order.

Yep, even Napoleon had to pay the bills.
