Rules are getting worst on Russian ccTLD's

Not sure i understand what they want, maybe someone with better Russian can explain, overall it's looking as if the as is unstable situation around Russian ccTLD registrants rights, is only getting worst and rules are getting stricter.

Re: Rules are getting worst on Russian ccTLD's

They are basically saying two things.

1. You ultimately need to have a valid passport to register your .ru or .rf domain, so they could quickly track you down in case they want to.

2. As a .ru or .rf domain owner, you are not entitled to defend your rights, since there won't be a dispute - your domain will be blocked/taken away when a senior police officer simply submits a claim form.

Nice.

I think I can almost hear local domainers screaming "$*$% this, let's go with a .com".

I believe the above link has at least 2 locals saying just that.

However why are they mostly choosing to hand register left over rather then take advantage of today's narrowing opportunity?

I have to believe that serious domainers who are looking for top cyrillic generics do take notice. The last thing you want is to spend xxx,xxx in developing a top generic site, only to see it simply get taken away by someone bribing the local police officer.

Re: Rules are getting worst on Russian ccTLD's

The other issue is that in .ru/.рф, domain owners are responsible for content that appears on the site. Including user-generated content. There are no safe harbor provisions.
