O.CO fail

We also believe that our current efforts to rebrand ourselves from Overstock.com to O.co may have contributed to the decline in revenue.

Re: O.CO fail

it was always doomed to fail.

url shortener, sure why not. but rebranding? I'd love to know how much traffic went the direction of o.com

Quote:
In January Overstock began using the domain O.co, directing consumers who type in O.co to the web-only retailer’s e-commerce site, Overstock.com
check out the google trends for o.com, no co-incidence it spikes from January

You can make a guess by comparing the two. Google Trends

GAKT:

o.com 823.000
o.co 22.000
o.co.com 390

Ouch.

Re: O.CO fail

Yeah, kind of puts the capacity of Schartz, Schilling and Co. to define the future into perspective.

It also clearly illustates that the only New TLDs that matter are going to be transliterations/translations of dot Com.

Nope. They'll still try to pawn their shit to suckers because it's all they have. He didn't learn from .mobi, then .co, now .xxx which will be eventually blocked by many governments. But the US market is all that matters right?

Rick posted a blog about how successful his last auction was. It was shit. Spin is everywhere. He can't even face the fact that he fucked over his last auction and it's sellers by not allowing online bidding.

I know the guy used to sell 1-800 numbers but to use phone-ins only? Who uses the phone to buy stuff anymore? Get with the times man. Just shows how backwards they all think.

I see Schilling is allowing IDNs to be parked with his parking service albeit you have to have ASCII cred to get them listed. Hopefully he at least sees the future potential and the change to come. And allows IDN portfolio holders a chance to park theirs.

After Rick's latest political posts. I can now be 100% sure the man is an idiot. I only had my suspicions before. He has since removed all doubt. No wonder the man is a comment nazi.

Re: O.CO fail

Well, I actually think their money is well spent.

When I search o.com on Google, the first link I got is overstock.com. I do not know whether it is the same before o.co campaign.

When I type in o.com on Chrome, I got a suggestion to go to o.co. Again, I do not know whether this is the same before o.co campaign. Typing in o.com on IE goes directly to Google search page for o.com.

So, as a result of Overstock's o.co campaign, both search traffic and type in traffic for o.com and o.co will eventually go to o.co! That does not sound like a failure..

Re: O.CO fail

In the last 25+ years companies/organizations and individuals together certainly spent at least one Trillion dollars on advertising and marketing they're products and services with a .com at the end.

No other gTLD, ccTLD or sTLD is even in the same remote area.

I guess trying to swim against something like that possibly makes it a failure by default.

"Unintended Consequences - How Dot Com
Became The Most Powerful Brand In The World"

"Since the first .com domain name (symbolics.com) was registered on
March 15, 1985, the largest advertisers in the U.S. alone have spent
trillions on advertising. In almost every ad their dot com web address is
promoted to the public. In the process they have cumulatively and
unwittingly built one of the most powerful brands on the planet.
Unfortunately, that brand is not their own; it is “Dot.Com"."

Re: O.CO fail

They need to get o.com if/when that happens to insure they get the traffic. Of course they are going to have to fight Oprah for it.
