Re: Do you have the droit™?
You can help people understand what legal rights are, whether they can sell CHINA, and help them protect their fortune. But most importantly, you can make them laugh before they pay you legal fees.

Re: Do you have the droit™?
Alas, I don't have the droit. It seems 'droit' was registered in 1996. That's some forward thinking IDNer!
I still laugh every time I think of "you don't have the droit." Classic.

This word from Law French, an archaic language based on Norman and Anglo-Norman, used in some form even today in the Law Courts of England (and Courts in the United States), also appears in the motto of the British Monarch, "Dieu et mon droit".
Dieu et mon droit (French for God and my right) has generally been used as the motto of the British monarch since it was adopted by Henry V (1413-1422). Originally it was spelled Dieut et mon droict, the early Modern French spelling, but later the 'c' in "droict" was taken out in accordance with present French orthography. To this day, this motto is emblazoned on the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom.
A French motto rather than English was chosen because the English language had only recently replaced French as the language of the English ruling classes. Henry spoke French and had been crowned King of France as well as of England.
The phrase was allegedly first used as a password by King Richard I in 1198 at the Battle of Gisors, when he defeated the forces Philip II of France. Its meaning was that Richard owed his royalty to no power other than God and his own heredity, and was therefore subject to no earthly power or other monarch. This can be taken as a direct reference to the doctrine of the Divine Right of Kings.
Dieu et mon droit was the inspiration for The Beatles joke motto Duit On Mon Dei, later adopted as an album title by Harry Nilsson.

French people certainly have the droit, but it's other people (especially English speakers) 's fault to think that ONLY French owns the droit. We have rights!

Re: Do you have the droit™?
Blast, you should make some t-shirts with slogans like:
"What gives you the droit?"
"Two wrongs don't make a droit"
"You have the droit to remain silent"

Re: Do you have the droit™?
I know hundreds of free french IDN with the 'droit problem'. Don't try to take them wherever you are. It's expensive, very expensive.
The first lawyer letter costs 3500 Euro.....

More bollocks. It won't cost you a penny if you decide not to fight it. Any legal challenge will only affect your pocket if you decide to contest it. If they claim the name and you give it to them then they have no case. Yes, it doesn't make sense spending thousands of TM name, but there is no reason to loose sleep over reg fee.
The onus of defending a TM is on the TM holder. If he doesn't make a challenge there is no problem. There is only a problem once he has served notice.

Re: Do you have the droit™?
I may sound ignorant, but what's the big deal of the word "droit", isn't it a Starwars invented word?

It sounds funny in English. See my post above above for etymology.
