A lack of awareness of IDNs is a main hurdle to lead the IDNs’ taking off in over here.
Without having a new .IDN is not a major problem that we are facing here now, I believe.
Even though, IDN.IDN is rooted in near future, it’s still one of new gTLDs that’s not educated to entire ordinary people.
Only a very few or none of businessmen will use the new IDN gTLD as their main extension domain for advertising for a long while.
Majority will keep using the .com extension for their main domain’s extension because of its well known awareness never surpassed by a later newly extension.
If I add one more reason, I will say all smart phones have a [.com] key on the virtual touch screen keyboard.
Return to the main topic again…
To prevent this most likely failure, Verisign should provide the .IDNs service without any charge by using aliasing method like Dname.
Verisign should look for the world synergy effects first then expects more registered .com number than the current number of ascii .com domain only.
Without the aliasing service of the new .IDNs, it will be following a same way as a new Latin letter gTLDs went wrong.
Dname like aliasing is only way can be a trigger to have more registrants from every corner of global to increase verisign’s revenue.
I wish they know this picture and they pretend not knowing this to foggy out their competitors.
And that’s why they have said they will give a solely right unlock the .IDNs to the current IDN.com registrants.
My knowledge says that IDN.com will have a bright future eventually with .IDN or without .IDN.
But aliasing will make this brightness coming faster and give a .coms’ better reliability will help the IDNs to pick up as higher as alphabet domain sooner over here in Asia.
