Re: the new guy....
@ Jay and alpha
no, i've been listening to Drewbert and others.....
but my game plan is very different i have to say..... in short i guess i can say, i'm looking for quality rather than quantity.... i think my regional placement helps me accomplish that...... i've already started looking actually......
and since like alpha said, indian idns are probably a 5 year investment.......( the market might improve by a year's time, but it probably would take longer for people to start using them....), there's a good chance i will sell the ones i find here and not wait.....

maybe .org or .info; for only the highest quality keywords......
but the counterpoint would be, " is there going to be a transliterated or translated .idn......? my answer would be not any time soon, and even that is being optimistic.....

this style originated from mobile texting...... and makes the point i made earlier; indian urban youth probably won't use regional languages on the net.....

Darn, I recently registered the prime terms for jokes, stories, poetry, Taj Mahal, Bollywood, horoscope, and a few others in Hindi.net. I got misled by this post: http://www.idnforums.com/forums/3181...-net-deva.html. I guess that's $60 wasted! I almost registered the prime term for mobile phones (one of Mulligan's unclaimed drops), but luckily someone else beat me to it by a few hours. Otherwise that would have been another $7 down the drain!
The thing with IDNs is that you can't presume to know everything when you first start out. The amount of research involved compared to ASCII is like university versus pre-school.

Yeah - we're talking about Mulligan's Hindi .net (ऋण.net):

Based on Juicebox's reply to Mulligan, I'm not sure if he is aware of this.

I think Juicebox might be talking about Kannada, not Hindi?

Here's the bottom line. Are there newspapers being published in this language and writing system:

No. Enough said.

Could be. I'm sure Juicebox will clarify what he meant.
Anyway I think we often see this with native speakers. They are IT literate and have a fairly good grasp of English (as many do in India). They and their friends type using English characters, so they conclude that IDNs in their language have no future (except possibly for the poor rural folk who they reckon don't have need of the Internet anyway).
@ Juicebox, even if you are 95% sure IDNs won't take off in your language, the smart move would still be to reg a few native IDNs just in case you are wrong (imagine if you had a 5% chance of winning the lottery - you'd go bananas buying lotto tickets!).
I mean why focus on Latins when they have already been mined to death anyway (something you'll soon discover)? I kind of made that mistake when I first started out. I missed a lot of good IDN opportunities while I slowly figured out I was doing it wrong.

Re: the new guy....
hey guys.... sorry i haven't been on lately..... had to take care of a personal matter.... but i'm back.....
i think .net, .org and others would be worth going after, if the keyword or the IDN is of the highest quality......
what domainers say about .net, .info and others for regular english domain names also applies for .IDNs..... what do you guys think....?

you can pm me your name, I'm a buyer.
For malayalam domains, use an IDNA2008 compliant registrar (not dynadot)

We don't see many quality German IDNs put up for sale here. Most are in the hands of German owners who like selling on Sedo.

Re: the new guy....
SEDO is the best venue for selling German names, but there is no pricing reliability.

Re: the new guy....
i just bought a german IDN.... after the transfer lock period, i'll cross my fingers and apply for a great domains auction entry at sedo...... if it doesn't fall through, i'll sell it here....
as for the kannada and malayalam IDNs, i found a nice one each...... my target is either 4 IDNs at 50$, or 5 IDNs at 40$ each..... i'll register all of them together, so that i can sell them all together.....
