Arrow .com or .cn?

Hi guys,
I am curious :o which extension in Chinese IDNs will have a brighter future. 中文.com or 中文.cn?
I see more and more idn.cn come out in China's domain forums.
Thank you for any input.

No way of knowing, but I believe most speculators here reg dot com by preference.

Most of the sales on this forum to date have been dot coms.

My personal opinion applies to Dot JP and all other ccTLD IDN as well. (Maybe German domains excluded)

Re: .com or .cn?

Bit of both is my newbie opinion.

I have also gone in to regional .cn with names in the .bj.cn (Beijing) , .sh.cn (Shanghai) etc although I appear to be the only one at this point but I just cannot see how they cannot be of value. JMO

Well, 中文.cn is actually 中文.中国. .cn is used only for latin.cn or 123.cn.

If you visit Chinese domain forums, most people type 中文.中国.

The current sentiment among chinese locals is that chinese domains (中文米) go well with the chinese extension. However .com is very much entrenched in type-in habits.

Best case scenario: If ICANN launches idn.idn by next year (and comes out with a good chinese character for .com)

中文.com - Today
中文.中国 - 5 to 8 year's time.

Intermediate case scenario: If ICANN doesn't launch idn.idn within the next 2-3 years.

中文.com - Today
中文.中国 - 3 to 5 year's time.

Worst case scenario: If ICANN launch idn.idn (but uses a bad character for .com).

中文.com - Today
中文.中国 - 2 to 4 year's time.

Disaster case scenario: If ICANN launches a chinese.idn, but not DNAMED to idn.com.

中文.com - Today
中文.中国 - 1 to 3 year's time.

You're not the only one, i also bought a couple real estate ones and then stopped as these are geographic specific names, and will not fit every keyword.

.sh.cn might actually be .上海.中国.

They will become valuable once .中国 goes mainstream, which i predict will happen in a couple of years.
