Arabic Translations- Any good sites?

Anyone found any good free translation sites for Arabic. Don' waste your time at this one, unless you want to pay.

CAUTION- we found a "free" site- www.sakhr.com, or dictionary.sakhr.com. After they get you to register and give them a good bit of personal info, you find out you get ONLY about 12 free words, then they hit you with an invoice for $1000. Bill

Maybe Altavista/Babelfish will include Arabic soon. Although we have found you must recheck their definitions...a fair amount, maybe 20% in English to Japanese at least are not the 'best' choices, or incorrect translations on the Japanese to English. But, you get what you pay for so glad to have them helping and especially for re-checks!

Re: Arabic Translations- Any good sites?

I agree with you about Babelfish ! I have spent a good few minutes scratching my head over some of it's translations and wondering why they don't relate to any kind of decent returns in Google or OVT. It's a free resource so can't complain though and it is certainly useful for giving you an idea that you are on the right track with a few phrases.

With regards to Arabic I have found that some of the online dictionary/thesaurus sites include an Arabic translation in their foreign translations section of the words. Thats about as close as I have found to anything that will assist in trying to find out the Arabic for English words though and they don't always include the Arabic on everything. I did find a couple of other sites that had things like lists of country names in Arabic but not any actual online translation engines. I'll be watching this thread with interest to see if any of the more experienced players can assist.

Regards
David

Re: Arabic Translations- Any good sites?

I have just found one online tool that will do some English to Arabic translation which is here :

http://www.lingvosoft.com/English-Arabic-Dictionary/

I have only used it to try a few words and it seemed okay but as with all online translators exercise caution and check any Google and OVT results first !!

They also appear to have online translators for Japanese, Korean, Persian (Farsi) and Russian as well as a couple of others. Only some are currently active so the Chinese/ Hindi/ Thai/ Hebrew etc doesn't currently work unfortunately. I haven't tried any of the others or used this one extensively but hopefully it may be of use to other members.

Regards
David

Re: Arabic Translations- Any good sites?

I will be glad to help with any arabic translations

human translation are better than mechanical one

Mechanical gives you only proper term not the slang one which may be more popular

also there are typos which will get high traffic and you won't know them by any means of online translations.....etc

Re: Arabic Translations- Any good sites?

Lingovosoft.com seem promising, ..however it gave up to 12 translations for some words. Try putting in "FREE" for instance. Hard to know which of the choices might be best without a lot of work. I put in a couple of other common Arabic symbols, translating back to Englisn, and it did not recognize. Are there many different dialects?? G- can you fill us in?? Thanks, Bill

Re: Arabic Translations- Any good sites?

Hi Bill

The Lingvosoft site doesn't translate from Arabic to English at all as far as I can see (None of the text on that page actually indicates that it does so I'm not sure why the button is there unless it's to confuse us !!)

I have found a better English-Arabic translation site which is here:

http://www.alburaq.net/dictionary/transform.cfm

Post the English word in the grey box in the centre and click the button underneath.

Hope thats useful to you and the other members.....Maybe this should be in the members only part though so feel free to move it Olney if you wish.

Regards

David
