Did .asia screw over their registrants?

  • First, dot asia launch ascii.asia via sunrise and auction
  • Then they grandfather in ascii.asia to IDN.asia via sunrise and auction
  • Then they publicly say they will apply for at least 4 new gtLD transliterations of "asia", suggesting that there will be an opportunity to again be grandfathered in (cough hack: auction) to the full idn.idn

no doubt a bunch of the above were sold and bought in auction based on the idea they would apply for these.

thing is, i don't remember seeing a gTLD application for any of these?

Re: Did .asia screw over their registrants?

did they say they were going to apply in first round for the various .asia gtlds? My initial thought was maybe they missed the date/forgot about it ect. Except Mr. Edmon Chung is the contact for 14 new gtld apps hmmmmm. Maybe a different "Edmon Chung" although the email listed is info"@"tld.asia

They seem to be apps for 3rd parties so maybe they didn't have the funds.

Well, you can easily forget that .asia actually exists.

I know what you mean. Since packing in work, Lenka has acquired an obcession for Ebay.

Mind you, she has yet to bid on a dot Asia.

so lets see you bought 1 matching idn.asia, I will admit I regged around 10 so that would make 11 registered. One other note, wasn't last spring the 1 year anniversary of their "grandfathering" announcement, so if others were like me and didn't renew........ I bet they looked at their current registrations/drops last spring and said nah, not going to drop the 185,000, btw is there anyway to tell if actually applied and then they asked for a refund?

we should start a poll what is the "worst" extensions.... I got it "top " extensions? although we would need to remove .ws or it wouldn't be worth it because we all know who would win. No offense to anyone who has actually registered /renewed one of those "Western Samoan", extensions.

I have a "developed" .ws and it brings in a few bucks monthly
This still doesn't take away the sh*tiness of the extension.

Perhaps things would go better if they got "Western Samoa" to change the name of their country to "Web Site".

There was a small town in the US West Coast(?) that changed their name to smalltown.com a few years back. So, there is hope for W. Samoa.
