[Tech] & [Software] - Japanese

I would appreciate comments, especially from Native speakers if these are the correct terms.

ソフトウエア

Software

What's the difference between ソフトウエア & ソフトウェア (2nd last letter is small)?

I've come across similar ones like ウオッチ & ウォッチ too, why the difference?

Re: [Tech] & [Software] - Japanese

oh yeah, sorry about that. i've been thinking about this, and the best way to describe it is that the small letter modifies the larger letter's sound, adding extra phonemes to the syllabary.

for example ウェ
ウ is a simple u sound, but adding ェ (which is an e) means that the u becomes something like "ueh" so you can approximate the sound of software better.

transliteration is a fuckup at the best of times from english to japanese, but this makes it at least a little bit more similar to the original (of course depending on if the original is with a british or american accent!!)

Ok cool, thanks for the explanation.

What are your thoughts on テク? Would that be the most correct transliteration of "Tech"?
