Re: Interesting Pic
I got some of my very best names only last year. All were drops, Russian and Portuguese.
It was difficult to keep names that don't make money for 6-10 years;
But now they will be sensational for development

Re: Interesting Pic
This pic would be an accurate representation of the idn industry maybe 5-10 years ago. At the moment one would be considered extremely lucky to find one or two diamonds in the rough via drops never mind a handful. Just being realistic, don't mean to poop on anyone's parade.
On a separate note, however, I do agree with you guys that if it wasn't for people who forgot to renew, gave up on idn's and dropped they're names, didn't have the proper knowledge or resources to find good names, or simply had too many great names to renew at the end of the year and wanted to share their abundance with others, it would be a lot more difficult for new players to compete in this space.
So without further adue, special thanks (If they are reading)
Cheers

Re: Interesting Pic
Just to clarify, I got some great names from drops but I doubt I'd be able to find any now if not for all those years of experience and many garbage names of my own.
Also, my idea of a good domain have been changing along quite a lot

How many years of experience? We're you in the idn market prior to joining idnf in 2011?

You mean Spanish and Portuguese names in ASCII script? Or in Latin characters?

there are still a lot of opportunities left. the market is hardly what i would call matured. depends on the language though it's more difficult than 5 or 10 years ago, prices are higher you have to spend more to acquire a name. i would say that compared to ascii the market is still much better than when schilling entered the the game and even he managed to build a highly profitable portfolio.
you can no longer acquire top 50 names for reg fee that window has closed long time ago. most of the other stuff is still cheap.
of course you can not compare ascii directly to idns but it's still very early. we don't even have a real market yet.

I think we both have a slightly different perception of a diamond in the rough type idn. Last time I checked everything of that caliber was taken a long time ago.

Re: Interesting Pic
On the other site, it is important to know when to quit, admit you were wrong and move on.
If you search among quotes, 99% of the time you can find a quote that says exactly the opposite as another one. The reason quotes are so popular is because one remembers only the right quote for the right situation, try doing the opposite exercise and you'll yourself quite sad for finding the hard reality about quotes... sorry.

There are still opportunities. You just have to know where to look.

Re: Interesting Pic
I think opportunities do still exist, about in the same quantities as they always have. I don't see any real improvement in the IDN situation for many years now, and I challenge anyone to show evidence that sale prices are going up. In fact I think it's pretty clear that IDNs have flat out failed in some markets.

Re: Interesting Pic
in my opinion, no one knows.
we have idn.idn hitting the same year as 1000 other gtlds are hitting.
1000 types of moonies in their own rectitude....good grief Charlie Brown.
1000 bus. dev executives pulling the football at the last minute for millions of domain newbies...

Re: Interesting Pic
It all depends on what you want to achieve. There are always a number of decent traffic domains out there.

i hand-regged a 70k exact 2 days ago. not claiming that it is a special name but it wasn't hard to find.
last week there was a dynadot auction where a ringtones in chinese or something like that was auctioned off not sure if it was renewed or the highest bidder got it but the auction ended around $700, i think it had at least 300k exact.
how much would you pay for ringtones.com in ascii? (with 360k exact) 1000 times as much?
so i think some good opportunities still exist.
porno.com cost RS 33k and made 15 millions so far i think.
that is 500 times what he paid for it.
