Sounds like a housing bubble all-over, except there's no widespread credit.

If the Local Currency were more realistically valued against the Dollar, then these prices would be even higher in Dollar Terms.

As pointed out above, this is supply and demand without central bank credit distortions.

What is clearly driving it is the huge wealth gap between rich and poor. Very much a Post Code thing.

i guess that is good news for us. Ordinary people don't buy premium domains, entrepreneurs or companies do. So even if a country is relatively poor there can be a strong market for specific names at least in theory.

I wonder if the gap between rich and poor will be reflected in IDNs and if there will be a much larger gap in princing between premium names and the names that the small website owners will buy than in ASCII.com

so either it is worth a lot or nothing.

another tidbit:

Most people think Las Vegas is the capital of the casino world.

It's not.

Casino revenues in Macau, the semi-autonomous administrative region of China, surpassed those of Vegas years ago.

Gambling turnover in Macau is now five times that of Vegas, annually, according to The New Yorker
.

From my understanding revenue is mostly driven by extremely wealthy asian customers.
