Bitcoins

Seems there is some interest in bitcoins among users here. For those who are, I'm wondering about your general thoughts on BTC...are you optimistic about their future and utility? There are some registrars now, like Namecheap, that accept bitcoins (maybe Dynadot in the future).

The dollar and the euro aren't exactly doing well, and RMB is a pain to deal with. Will bitcoins grow in importance or is it just a fad?

Re: Bitcoins

Bitcoins are similar in many ways to IDNS, except people want to buy bitcoins from you for more than you paid for them.

Oops, time to head for the hills

Seriously, I'd be happy to discuss bitcoins but its probably not the right place. There's been so much uninformed crap in the popular media this week, I really can't be arsed .....

Just an example. Some idiot (he calls himself a journalist but that implies a level of professionalism to me) wrote an article on CNBC.com, the headline being "bitcoin hacked". Which was untrue. I tweeted him and he retracted the statement (though the article remains intact and online), saying yes, bitcoin hadn't been hacked but a "major bitcoin exchange had been hacked".

Again, totally untrue. MtGox, the largest bitcoin exchange was subject to a massive DDoS attack, in common with many other busy sites in the last couple of weeks.

And he's refusing to discuss it now even in tweets because he knows he's written a completely inaccurate article.

So this article gets re-posted all over the Net because its comes from a "trusted source" and now people think bitcoin has been hacked.

Journalism deserves to die if this motherfucker is an example of what passes for a professional journalist these days.

Re: Bitcoins

Yes, but it does rather imply that there value is in someway related to the security of a site, which nobody seems to know anything about.

Fort Know may not have any Gold but at least you can see the barbed wire.

DDoS attacks are getting more prevalent by the week because they have so many "uses":

http://www.zdnet.com/the-largest-ddo...ry-7000013225/

They are practically impossible to prevent, you just have to have a plan in place to mitigate them when they do hit. If you run any kind of financial service site, be it a bank, forex, shares, or bitcoins, you will get hit regularly in the future.

MtGox might be the largest bitcoin trading exchange today, but natural selection will ensure otherwise if it can't handle upcoming attacks better.

Re: Bitcoins

Anyone else want to buy BTC or LTC?

PM me.

Funny, and it was only $2 when I first wanted to sell domains for it. lol.

Edit:
Now I'd rather invest in crypto than domains.... Crypto has made me far more coin.

I hear that. You can keep your LTC though

Actually, I was thinking of mining LTC for a bit of fun but its freaking 42 degrees in Thailand at the moment. I really didn't want to make my room any hotter.

The value of BTC has gone up $20 in the last 24 hours, it has now passed the $200 mark.

Re: Bitcoins

I think I read somewhere on the internet something to the effect that if all the world's currencies were replaced by bitcoins, each bitcoin would be worth 20 million current US dollars. So bitcoins still have some upside potential. Or not.

Personally, I'm sticking to IDNs. Some might consider that a contrarian indicator.

I'm sticking to both. I keep getting told to diversify. Done.

this is wishful thinking... buy when no one else is buying(IDNs). now that the mainstream media is all over it it is probably too late already. maybe if you get lucky it will become a mega bubble and you will still make money but at this point it's just a gamble with unknown outcome. a small bet isn't wrong here but is just gambling not investment. it's more promising than facebook stock though.

but this kind of bubble behaviour is really interesting to watch, who knows where it will end?
