Re: Interesting China eCommerce Stats

Interesting, Thank you for sharing.

I don't understand the math on this statement:

9 out of 10 pay using e-payment services. (but half also pay cash on delivery)

If 90 percent pay using e-payment how can 50 percent pay cash on delivery?

Re: Interesting China eCommerce Stats

I would suppose the author means 90% of buyers use e-payment some of the time and other times they use COD, but i can ask her. Excellent question, it should have been worded differently.

Re: Interesting China eCommerce Stats

Another argument won by Rubber Duck.

Years ago I argued that China would basically leap frog the West and much of its retail development would go straight to the Internet.

It made no sense to build all those Western Style shopping Emporiums when those in the West are folding because they cannot compete with the internet.

When you build out an industry from scratch you don't do it with out moded and outdated methods and business models.

And for anyone thinking this is the end of the story. Friends this is just the beginning.

Re: Interesting China eCommerce Stats

What this really shows is Alibabu is going to be bigger than Amazon and will emerge as a real challenger on the World Stage.

It also show how immature the Chinese E-Shopping thing is. It seems over half the market is one player, which really is no good for us. However, that is likely to change rapidly over the next few years with hundreds of niche players emerging. Really things have not even started to take off as far as competitive online advertising is concerned. But of course they will. Ask Rick, he will tell you how confident he is in the Chinese market.

The other thing that is obvious is that there is lack of recognised brands in the Chinese Market place or least ones selling at a sensible price. So look out for the emergence of a new wave of megabrands.

But he was toying with you. He knew Rice was slang for Domain Names in Chinese.

so the chinese will soon spend $40 billion dollars on rice via their cellphones and the US will spend 30 Billion on consumer goods with their mobile phones.

rick would probably invest in:

水稻.mobi

but what is really strange: if you go to rick's blog and look at the notable sales section you see:

FreeSexCams.com $150,000
Meet.me $450,000
eCruise.com to iCruise.com Cash & Stock
235.com for $100,000
Men.com $1.3MM
Property.com/Properties.com $4MM + Equity Stake
Candy.com $3MM + Royalties + 10% Ownership +++
iReport.com to CNN for $750K
ChinaTours.com $200,000
tokyoHotels.com $200k++
PartnerCash.com $110,000
SydneyHotels.com $100,000
eScore.com to Kaplan Educational $100,000
273.com $50,000
PunchBowl.com to MyPunchbowl.com Cash & Stock
RockStars.com $180,000
236.com to IAC (Undisclosed)
RoomDividers.com $75,000
onlineCasinos.com (undisclosed)

So basically a few of his notable sales are NNN Domains and if you visit the sites two of the three are actually chinese websites.

How come?

and then his sale: chinatours.com the whois is based in australia and the website says:

Quote:
ChinaTours.com, the web portal for Xian ANZ International Travel Service Co., Ltd, a fully licensed tour operator based in Xian, offers a full spectrum of tour packages in China, including competitively priced Join-in Tours and fully customized Private Tours. Our mission is to design affordable top quality tours enhancing the enjoyment for people visiting our beautiful country and ensuring visitors experience the unique culture of the Middle Kingdom!
I wonder if he truly believes what he is writing on his blog.

Re: Interesting China eCommerce Stats

At least 3 of the 19 names on the list are somehow tied to chinese business. I think that is a lot if you consider this is still a growing field and Rick probably never intended to invest there.
