The very final batch...
Ok, contrary to my post in the other thread, thought I better get some more before they all run out - that makes 200+ registrations today. That's going to have to be it for now, because I've run out of ready sources of word lists!
NOTE: Each name is followed by a rough English translation, and Japanese Overture figures (without extension) in brackets. Remember that there is no singular/plural change in Japanese. I left this list up for a good long time - but it's now gone.

I don't know if I'm walking a clearly marked trail, stumbling across huge gold nuggets, or if I'm lost in the forest... but I just dug up:
I left this list up for a good long time - but it's now gone.

Re: The very final batch...
Yeah, I don't like this one bit. I see a lot of names on my list. Hey Edwin, can I ask a question? What exactly changed your mind to turn bullish on idn?

Re: The very final batch...
I saw how many people had put IDNs on their "things to watch out for in 2006" lists - so even if they don't take off to a huge extent as quickly as we may hope they will, with enough interest a reasonable secondary market should form... And it really only takes one person scooping up the goodies to take them away from everyone else, and I could see half a dozen or more folks grabbing the proto-gold with both hands.
The above was the catalyst for me to spend a day seeing what I could find (nothing was on my list before yesterday morning) - I'm quite pleased at the result.

Re: The very final batch...
By the way, I'll let you in on a little secret: while I know enough Japanese to sort some of the obvious howlers out, I didn't actually type anything in my research yesterday (luckily, since my command of Kanji is very minimal) - I just methodically stepped through categories and subcats of Dmoz Japanese version, checking available domains against OT, Google and some translation sites and putting the juicy domains to one side.
By the time I'd checked OT, Google and at least 2 independent translations I was reasonably confident of the ones I kept - though as you saw I was tripped up by Vietnam, for instance. So (as Dave has already found to great effect) you don't have to know the language to score some good domains, you just have to be extremely rigorous about how you verify them.
