SEDO Launches Chinese website. Sedo.cn

http://sedo.com/cn/sedo-%E4%B8%96%E7...=0&language=cn

The press release announcing the news is posted below:

Sedo, the world’s largest domain marketplace and monetization provider, today unveiled a new Chinese website, expanding its international reach to serve China’s 591 million Internet users and more than one billion Chinese speakers around the world. With the addition of a Chinese-language site, Sedo now offers a platform that powers domain related services and transactions in 7 languages, and support from a staff of domain professionals that speak 25 languages, further strengthening its position as the only true global domain marketplace and service provider.

“Sedo has always been an international company, and as the Internet expands to continue creating a global economy that connects languages, countries and cultures, we’re keeping pace with and even helping to fuel that rapid change,” said Sedo’s CEO, Tobias Flaitz. “We’ve seen growing demand for Chinese-related domains, including some of our most highly-valued sales in the recent past, and our new site will help expedite similar transactions and make them even easier to execute.”

For example, one of the largest domain transactions of 2012 was the Sedo-powered sale of Dudu.com for $1 million. Sedo’s brokerage team negotiated the sale while navigating the language barrier between a Chinese seller and Russian buyer. Other recent Chinese-related domains to sell on Sedo’s marketplace include yinhang.com for $300,000 and juxin.com for $66,666, two of the most highly-valued sales in the second quarter of 2013. In the third quarter, a private transaction to a Chinese buyer valued at nearly $500,000 was one of Sedo’s largest sales.

Sedo’s new Chinese-language site includes all the features and functionality of its other global sites in order to help connect Chinese speakers to its database of more than 17 million domains for sale. With nearly 50,000 active clients in China already, the site will make it easier for them to buy, park, and sell domains. It will also help to grow Sedo’s Chinese client base and expand the audience of potential buyers for all Sedo customers, no matter where they are in the world.

Sedo’s Chinese-language website can be found at www.sedo.cn.

Re: SEDO Launches Chinese website. Sedo.cn

Sedo are a joke.
Launching a Chinese website and after being advised repeatedly over a year or more you still cannot add Chinese extensions like .香港,.中国. And of course no search option.

Pathetic is probably more appropriate.

"Sedo's new Chinese-language site includes all of the features of its existing sites, and will make it easier for Sedo’s existing 50,000 active clients in China to buy, park and sell domains."

It also took them more than one year to point out that individuals could own .cn!

They have only JUST updated their site. For the past year potential buyers had been incorrectly told they could not own .cn!

"What are the regulations for registering .CN domains?
The Chinese registrar, CNNIC, released their latest regulations for the registration of .CN domains in 2012.

From 28 May 2012, any individual or organization in the world that can bear independently civil liabilities, has the right to apply for .cn domain registration under the implementing rules of CNNIC."

Re: SEDO Launches Chinese website. Sedo.cn

and [nnnn].com and [cnn].com etc etc

Looks like they've finally got around to getting their site running in Unicode?

Korean and Japanese interfaces as well? How long have they been there?

It's not really a separate website, I think, jut another language option, which means you have to wade through all the crap in the database to find the good stuff - if any.

Can someone fluent in Chinese/Japanese/Korean please confirm that you can zero in on IDN listings easily please?

Forget it. I just searched on "中". The results show that nothing much has changed.

Re: SEDO Launches Chinese website. Sedo.cn

Hello Wot, could you please explain a bit more, what did Drewbert mean by "... I just searched on "中". The results show that nothing much has changed."? Does the "中" represent Sedo's Chinese version website?

We signed cooperation/partner-papers with SEDO and now in last step of OTE testing, I am sure many of our existing customers would be using SEDO's Chinese version website, if the website did not work well in Chinese, I consider I should forward the issue to our contact in SEDO.

Re: SEDO Launches Chinese website. Sedo.cn

Sedo are all joining forces with a number of Chinese registrars. I wonder if they realise many of the domain names that sell cannot be added to their clients Sedo accounts?

.中国 .公司 .网络 Are just some of the Chinese character domains that cannot be “parked” -This is what you get:

“The domain name you entered is invalid.”

And to add insult to injury to the Chinese registrars Sedo do not even own Sedo.中国

Even better it’s for sale:

sedo.中国This domain name is for sale.您正在访问的域名可以转让!

Even better it is parked at Ename.com, a company Sedo have recently partnered with!

It took them 10 years to figure UTF-8. They still handle "fake" IDNs on a regular basis even after all the complaints.

I hold out no hope they can get a grip on the Chinese market.

I've had discussions with them. To say they don't know what the f*** they are doing re: IDNs would be indulging them. Just a shame there is so little competition in the IDN auction platform market. Afternic doesn't even allow unicode searches

BTW they now allow IDN domains to be featured on the homepage :
"I've checked with some of our tech team and we are now allowing IDN domains in our Featured Listings, with the exception of IDN domains specifically designed to mimic non-IDN domain names."

They have been doing that for some time now.

Also took them a year to remove the mimicking domains even whilst a number of people were getting ripped off and Sedo were ignoring constant warnings.See MonikerBlog.com

It's the Chinese bit right of the . they are still ignoring.

Really ? Didn't notice that but recently , so i asked CS and that was their initial response : "Thank you for contacting us.

I'm sorry, but we don't have the capability to showcase domains with IDN characters at this time."

Yes i've seen these domains just recently , they did apologise later on : "I've checked with some of our tech team and we are now allowing IDN domains in our Featured Listings, with the exception of IDN domains specifically designed to mimic non-IDN domain names. My apologies for the confusion."

There are many instances of IDN names being "featured" for some time now, some genuine, many garbage.

Just some.

http://monikerblog.com/?p=827

I believe a couple of these were also "featured"

http://monikerblog.com/?p=494

As I said, you are being bullshitted by whomever you are in contact with at Sedo
