Russian browser software?

A question:

Is there a Russian browser (for computer or smartphone) that if you type a search phrase into the URL bar, the spaces are converted to .'s and the browser goes to the DNS and attempts to resolve the resultant domain?

Can those of you that speak fluent Russian ask around the forums please?

Re: Russian browser software?

Either. I don't care.

Need to find out ASAP.

Need to explain why those newGTLD blocklists have so many popular phrases in them.

Re: Russian browser software?

try Yandex Browser. It's based on Webkit/Chromium, so it's should behave rather main-streamy but they do have a feature to correct what I call keyboard layout typos i.e. typing in cyrillic a domain that should be in ascii

Re: Russian browser software?

Just did a few tests.

Chrome will never treat онлайн as a TLD, thus a query for акула.онлайн will redirect to SERPs

Firefox and IE however will treat акула.онлайн as a domain and try to resolve it. I think the answer probably lies in those 2 browsers or mods/flavors of either one.

To answer your question more precisely, I know of no browser that concatenates with dots. And if you think about it, it wouldn't make much sense because one big revenue steam of browsers is the search deal they get with major search engines. I don't think any browser co in their right mind would implement a feature that would drive away search traffic to try and resolve any space separated query.

One thing you should look into is which browsers try to resolve inexistent links. Lots of time people using Web building software that auto parses link or auto format links can mistakenly put an invalid input as the link url, and from there error traffic. Just a thought.

Actually there is so many different browsers there might just be one that confirms your hypothesis

Re: Russian browser software?

Weren't the ICANN lists based on several samples, from several years? Perhaps the .онлайн domains came from one of the older samples, and were generated by an old browser that now behaves differently. So many variables...

Could be all types of traffic by the way, browser, email, private network etc.

Re: Russian browser software?

Exactly. But they've assumed the worst by designating all of it as private network collisions. Idjuts.

Re: Russian browser software?

Detrimental to launch though.

When people hear of a new TLD "online" what's the first thing they'll do? They'll try typing "video.online" (or another popular obvious choice) into the URL bar, and they'll get the standard error response from the browser because all the best domains are blocked.

What does Opera do with nxdomain? Presents you with a google.com search bar. Not good advertising for a newGTLD!

At the rate things are going, all these issues will be straightened out long before .ком comes online.
