Re: Russian browser software?
Just did a few tests.
Chrome will never treat онлайн as a TLD, thus a query for акула.онлайн will redirect to SERPs
Firefox and IE however will treat акула.онлайн as a domain and try to resolve it. I think the answer probably lies in those 2 browsers or mods/flavors of either one.
To answer your question more precisely, I know of no browser that concatenates with dots. And if you think about it, it wouldn't make much sense because one big revenue steam of browsers is the search deal they get with major search engines. I don't think any browser co in their right mind would implement a feature that would drive away search traffic to try and resolve any space separated query.
One thing you should look into is which browsers try to resolve inexistent links. Lots of time people using Web building software that auto parses link or auto format links can mistakenly put an invalid input as the link url, and from there error traffic. Just a thought.
