chinese IDN blocked variant opinions

a four character IDN that I am interested in is taken as 4 traditional characters. Not parked, and comes up as a webserver error.

the 4 simplified character version dot com is blocked.

When the Chinese IDN gtld for dot com is finished with the TM sunrise, and the priority phase, in 2017 sadly I imagine...am I correct in assuming that the IDN.IDN simplified will be available ?

Granted I would love to have both, but a friend is interested to develop the 4 simplified one.
He views the eventual IDN.IDN to be better and more brandable.
And doesn't want the IDN.IDN cctld or the other gtlds.

Interested to read any opinions on the trad/simpl blocked variant issue.

My understanding that the block will apply to the New gTLDs as well. At some point, yet to be determined (probably around 2050) if ICANN has anything to do with it, you should be able to activate the Variant or perhaps it will be done automatically.

But unlike the complete clusterfuck that ICANN has managed over dot com Aliasing the Variants will not be able to be registered as separate domains.

I have no idea but i suppose Verisign/ICANN will take the path of least resistance, delay a lot and will manage to f*ck things up.

I think I am going to advise my friend to go with a 6 character simplified dot com for the effort he wants to do.

Anyway going with YYXX rather than XXYY is an option for SEO and the HK / Taiwan / Singapore market with traditional characters so the approachable market drops 2/3's.

It simply sucks to see XX, XXYY traditional characters blocking simplified.

At least kanji use blocking Chinese use is understandable and gets a shrug.
