.コム
I'm a bit confused about .コム
As current holders of IDN.com in Japanese, do we need to pre-register the IDN.コム soon or as IDN.com owners do we have the IDN.コム equivalent blocked from anyone else registering it until we decide to register IDN.コム sometime in the future?

Re: .コム
From what is known, you have priority access to register the .コム during the domain matching period lasting two months. No pre-order is required.
Priority Access Program Period: March 15 – May 15, 2016

Re: .コム
That is my understanding, too.
You have to register it at the Registrar the matching .com is currently registered at.
I'd be wary of transferring a Japanese [IDN].com to a different registrar after 15 March as that might confuse the registrar's system that identifies legacy domains and you might have trouble proving that domain has priority access status.

Does this mean I need to transfer my japanese.com from Name.com to Dynadot.com ASAP?

Name.com has joined the party: https://www.name.com/domains/xn--tckwe. So no need to transfer.

Well i have to defend Verisign a bit here. The pricing looks a bit crude and random but it is mostly not the predatory pricing that we could see with other extensions.
Aids.sucks was priced at $1 million/per year while Aidssucks.com was still available to register.
They are smarter than their competitors and try to create a reasonable long term extension not the pump and dump hype that we have seen from others.
It could have been much worse. Most of the screw-ups that we have seen were from ICANN not Verisign. They did want to do aliasing but ICANN would not let them.
Do you want to buy vodka.horse for $3500/year? VodkaHorse.com costs $10/year.
https://www.dynadot.com/domain/searc...in=vodka.horse
So i think IDNers and the internet are lucky that we didn't have other guys running .IDN

That's a reseller's/domainer's price, not the registry's. vodka.horse has been registered since November.

that would have been even worse
but look at the WHOIS info and see who the reseller is.
http://whois.domaintools.com/vodka.horse
I think it is M&M domain selling division.
if you want to buy a truly premium keyword like hosting.horse(makes a lot of sense, a hosting company for horses) that will cost you $3000/year
https://www.dynadot.com/domain/searc...=hosting.horse
Laptop.horse another "gem" will cost you another $3k.

.sucks is really ingenious.
https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=microsoft.sucks
Verisign got one also!

Re: .コム
ICANN may have been the main cause of delays, but whose bending us over on Premium pricing? Haven't we done enough for these greedy bastards?

Re: .コム
Dear Chinese Domains Limited,
We have had many inquiries regarding the launch of .コム, the Japanese Katakana version of .COM being launched by Verisign. Since you own IDNs on .COM, we thought you might be interested in this new TLD, which starting 3/15/16 00:00 UTC will be entering a special Priority Access Period.
During this Priority Access Period, customers who currently own a .COM domain name in any language will be eligible to register that same domain name on .コム. The only requirement is that the .COM domain name must be registered prior to the start of the Priority Access Period and that the domain name is no longer eligible for grace deletion.
There is no additional fee to register your domain during Priority Access. Super Bulk pricing will be $11.99/year.
The Priority Access Period will be followed by a Landrush starting 5/15/16 00:00 UTC. Then, general availability will begin 6/13/16 00:00 UTC.
Verisign will also be launching different versions of .COM in several additional languages; however, they have not announced any information on them at this time.
Best,
Team Dynadot

So with Dynadot any IDN.コム we register which we already own IDN.com in Japanese will all be $11.99/year as the best price? That's like a 50% increase in price from the current IDN.com domains we own
So if current IDN.com owners don't register IDN.コムby date 6/13/16 00:00 UTC then anyone can register IDN.コムso there will be 2 different owners for the same IDN.com & IDN.コム

I would like to know this also. I checked with 101domains and they list premium prices even for Priority Access Period. I asked them about premium pricing in general not necessarily PAP and the only reply i got that some names cost more than others but they didn't say if that was set by the registry.
It seems depending on who you ask you get a different reply. Not sure if anyone knows anything.
We will find out soon I would say.
