IDNForums moving to new Server- may be minor downtime.

Just a heads up that SVWH (recently bought out by HostPapa) is migrating the forum onto a new server today and tomorrow and may be some short down times. We are also looking at possibly trying to update the vBulletin we are probably 10 versions back not sure how to make the leap, but anyone that has any ideas are welcome. IDNForums Administrator Drewbert is kind of riding herd on this process but all the work being done behind the scenes is by the engineers at HostPapa.

HostPapa/ SVWH.net says:

QUOTE "We have pre-migrated your website to a CentOS7 platform based on a CPanel metal solo setup, with CloudLinux for hardened PHP support (PHP 5.2 and even 4.4.9 included), and can confirm that your forum is loading fine and dandy from it. With this in mind, we will be switching the handful of mailboxes you have and preparing an update of the data tomorrow morning (the 29th of June, during the early hours Pacific Time), before we eventually proceed with the DNS switch once it's been all done.

Short downtime of a couple of minutes will be involved since we're going to keep mysql shut down during the final dump and until the DNS switch completes, in order to ensure that no posts will be missing from the new database. END

Bit of guess work here.

I assume that your current version of vBulletin code and backend mysql is using mysql utf8 encoding? This would certainly explain why we can only use Unicode BMP (Basic Multilingual Plane) characters in our posts.

I also assume that the newest vBulletin code and mysql backend uses mysql utf8mb4 encoding? This would then mean that we will be able to use the whole of the Unicode range in our posts

Hello Andre....any ideas and thoughts welcome.
We have approached the engineers at SVWH and HostPapa for possible help on a vBulletin upgrade, Drew thinks we may have to go up a few vB versions in steps but anyone that
has knowledge of how this might best be accomplished is welcome!
