Hindi name - translation/meaning help needed

I registered अँग्रेज़ी.com earlier this morning, from context of a site - and I'm not entirely sure what the exact meaning of the name is.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

अँग्रेज़ी = English
I have seen it more commonly written as अंग्रेज़ी

That means "English". However, the spelling is not entirely correct.

The dot below ज़ी comes from urdu for pronunciation, like in phone. However, a hindi speaker may not prefer it. I am generally not comfortable with those dots.

From the Google I get:

109,000 for अंग्रेज़ी

31,400 for अंग्रेजी

So the dots appear to have it.

That's what I thought as well - this version seems to have a higher amount of Google results, though it seems they are from a fewer amount of sources.

Anyhow, I really appreciate the help everyone!

Re: Hindi name - translation/meaning help needed

You are absolutely right syntactically. Infact, I have mentioned the same in my earlier post. However, a hindi speaker normally would not use the dot both in speech and writing.

Yes, but what I find bizarre about this is, if it is not Hindi speakers generating this web content, then who is? Urdu speakers would normally write in their own script presumably. Is all the content just being generated by a the reuse of a web template where the menu item for English has been incorrectly copied by someone that doesn't speak the language?

Re: Hindi name - translation/meaning help needed

Dave, you have missed the intricate detail. The numbers that you have quoted seem correct on the face value. However, this could be a mirage. If you mine deeper, you will realize this,

अंग्रेज़ी - 149 websites use this term
अंग्रेजी - 355 websites use this term

For अँग्रेज़ी, the raw score is 148,000 so from this it appears as the most common term. However, no. of sites using this term is just 21.

I think you get the picture on how the raw numbers can be highly skewed at times.

Re: Hindi name - translation/meaning help needed

Take your point, but I would like like to know how you managed to extract that additional information as that would be extremely valuable.
